Do you ever get reminded of that one really intense longfic that you had every intention of writing and had meticulous notes and complicated outlines for but then something happened and you aren't in the fandom anymore and you still have the desire to write the fic but it's slightly hollow now because it's a good idea and you think it would have been a great fic but you haven't been in the fandom for literally years and you don't have that bit of passion for it that you did when you were writing it and have just a weird moment of nostalgia where you want to reread it but it never existed

Spn ran for fifteen fucking seasons, it ran for over a decade, and wincest was consistently one of the two or three most popular ships. And it had no measurable impact on real world abuse. Maybe you think fandom is uniquely dangerous (why, idk, but this tumblr after all) but a pretty good rule of fandom is that if Spn couldn't do it, fucking no one else is going to manage it.

It just struck me how unusual it is that Star Trek TOS had no smoking. Not on the Enterprise. Not while people are relaxing on shore leave. Not by desk admirals. It was the 60s and this was actually pretty unusual. Go under-the-radar accurate predictions!

(after reading through the notes) Leaving aside the concept of Roddenberry purposely having thought about this and ruled smoking out of the show (which is absolutely possible): it strikes me as likely that if they had ever wanted to depict smoking in an episode, they’d have had to have fire marshals present on the set. Which would have cost extra… and ST: TOS was already routinely the most expensive TV show shooting in LA at that point.

Anyway, I’m curious about this now. I’ll go ask David Gerrold: he might very well know.
