Why is a Bait part of our ITTW GRUMP contest when Bait is clearly not a turtle or tortoise? Two reasons!

First, Bait is a champion GRUMP—Mom says his GRUMP could even rival mine!? 😤

Second, Bait is here to remind us that different species are all interconnected in our ecosystems: Protecting us shells also means protecting other critters. For example, gopher tortoise burrows also shelter gopher frogs! On the other hand, healthy ponds with healthy wildlife communities (such as toads) make for happy, healthy pond turtles. Ultimately, the best way to protect turtles and tortoises in the wild is to protect our ecosystems with all their inhabitants! 🌎💚🐢

Happy Earth Day and happy International Turtle and Tortoise Week! 🌎 We are kicking off the best week of the year with literal tree hugging: Sometimes, you just have to hug a tree! (Or a tree root if you are like me and can't reach the trunk.) 🌳🤗🐢

With all of today's literal and figurative tree hugging, don't forget that we should all be kind to our planet more than just one day every year. Be thoughtful about reducing, reusing, and recycling every day to help our beautiful home stay beautiful! ♻️💚🌏
