Belmont Day is here! 🏇🏻 There is no Triple Crown on the line this year, but that makes the (temporarily shorter) Test of the Champion even more exciting if you ask us: Anyone can win without feeling bad about ruining a legendary Triple Crown! 🏆

We are rooting for Preakness winner Seize the Grey again, once again the only grey and obviously still the best named! 😎 We will also be watching favorite Sierra Leone and intriguing newcomer Mindframe! 🐎

It’s almost post time for the Belmont Stakes!  🏇  After a week of drama over whether the air quality would be good enough for any horses to run today, the skies over New York have cleared up!  ☀️

Of course, we are rooting for gray Tapit Trice, but we are also excited to see Forte finally running in a Triple Crown race this year!  🐎

It’s Belmont Day!  🏇

One of the very first novels Mom ever read was the classic Black Beauty.  This copy was a gift from Mom’s first grade teacher!  Beyond telling the tale of a beautiful horse, Black Beauty emphasizes kindness, sympathy, and respect, values which Mom has tried to live up to all her life.  📖💗

Respect is certainly due to all the talented horses racing today in the Test of the Champion.  After sitting out the Preakness, surprise Derby winner Rich Strike returns to the Triple Crown circuit today!  This time, Rich Strike is very much on everyone’s radar as one of the favorites, together with We the People and Mo Denegal.  The longer distance of today’s race suits Rich Strike, but if you ask us, don’t count out filly Nest from the leaderboard!  Of course, we will once again also be cheering for the amazingly named Skippylongstocking!  🐎

👀  Pssst . . . did anyone else notice grays make up 25% of the eight-horse field today?!  😃

It’s Belmont Day!  🏇🏻

Today’s race features only eight horses, less than half the Derby’s field of 19.  Preakness winner Rombauer may have 3-1 morning line odds, but we think the winner’s blanket of white carnations will go to either Known Agenda or Essential Quality (the only gray in today’s field!).  🏆🌸🤔

Now that I have practiced STOMPing with my borrowed saddle a few times, it’s time for the Test of the Champion:  GRUMPing to victory with my BFF Brunhilda in my saddle!  Carnations, get ready to be CHOMPed!  🐢🦕💨

Full STOMP ahead!

It’s Belmont Day!  There is no Triple Crown on the line this year, but we are rooting for War of Will to become only the 12th horse to win both the Preakness and the Belmont, but not the Kentucky Derby.  He’ll have his work cut out for him by Tacitus, who hasn’t raced since the Derby and boasts Tapit as his sire.

No matter who wins, we hope today’s race goes smoothly.  From Maximum Security’s disqualification as the Derby winner to Bodexpress’s jockey-less run in the Preakness, there’s been more than enough drama this Triple Crown season!

This year, Mom invited a horse and puppy stamp duo to watch the Belmont with us.  Just like I did with last year’s Belmont guest, I instantly fell in love with my new puppy friend!

I LOVE YOU TO THE MOON AND BACK, PUPPY FRIEND!

YOU LOVE ME, TOO, RIGHT, PUPPY FRIEND?

(I was so enthusiastic about my new puppy friend that Mom has over 60 photos like these!  🤣)

Time for the Test of the Champion!  Can Justify win the Belmont Stakes for the second Triple Crown in three years?  With the rail post position, clear sunny weather, and a well-rested field, Justify sure has his work cut out for him today!

Mom invited Princess the pretty pony to watch today’s race with us.  I instantly fell in love with my regal new friend!

So much love!

Me, rude?!

I’m just showing Princess how much I love her!

You want me to share my yummy radicchio with our guest?!  Why would I ever do that?!?

HE DID IT!!

Justify has won Triple Crown #13!!!  And what a race!  Wire to wire lead, and what an impressive finish by only the second ever undefeated Triple Crown winner and the first ever to win the Triple Crown without racing as a two-year-old!

Congratulations to Mike Smith on becoming the oldest jockey to ever win the Triple Crown and Bob Baffert on becoming only the second trainer to win two Triple Crowns (back to back, no less)!

P.S.  Excellent place by Gronkowski on his first race in the US, his first race over more than a mile, and his first race on dirt!  Watching him go from dead last to second was incredible!

It’s Belmont Day!  The last jewel of this year’s Triple Crown is rather unusual in that none of the expected favorites are racing:  Always Dreaming (the Kentucky Derby winner), Cloud Computing (the Preakness winner), and even Classic Empire are all not in the field today.  The field is wide open!

We think the horses to watch today are Irish War Cry and Tapwrit.  Irish War Cry is up-and-down, but he is due for a good run and has a good post position.  Tapwrit is also looking strong, although he will be starting from post 2.  If we had to choose, we would probably pick Irish War Cry as the more likely winner today.  But, Mom has a soft spot for grays, so my new gray friend and I will be rooting for Tapwrit!

It’s Belmont Day!  Jewel three of the Triple Crown!  There’s no Triple Crown on the line this year, but that doesn’t mean the race will be any less exciting:  With the weather up in the air (will there be a flash thunderstorm?) and a field full of closers (but none of whom have raced the distance before!), this year’s Belmont promises to be one exciting race to watch!

We are, of course, continuing to root for quirky, expert-tantrum-throwing Lani.  Just look at that gorgeous face!

HE DID IT!!!

American Pharoah won the Belmont Stakes and the first Triple Crown since Affirmed in 1978!!! And what a win: wire to wire for a five-and-a-half-length win!!!

Congratulations to Zayat Stables, Bob Baffert, and Victor Espinoza for a truly historic win!!

Belmont Day!, Part 2 (Parts 1, 3, 4, and 5) (Previously: Derby day and Preakness day) Mommy and I are so excited about what could be the first Triple Crown since 1978! Well, at least Mommy is. I am more excited about this pretty yellow crown that Mommy gave me!
