fucking hell, the State of Missouri is out here suing the US Food and Drugs Admin over mail-order/remote-prescription abortion drugs rules by arguing:

"...Diminishment of political representation” and “loss of federal funds,” such as potentially “losing a seat in Congress or qualifying for less federal funding if their populations are” reduced or their increase diminished."

And why? Because there're now fewer teenage pregnancies...!

"...Remote dispensing of abortion drugs by mail, common carrier, and interactive computer service is depressing expected birth rates for teenaged mothers."

lololol they're basically arguing, "When we got rid of women's health clinics and abortion providers we thought teen pregnancies would go up so we could control and abuse those pesky women for the rest of their lives, but it turns out they're just not having babies. So it's all your fault, FDA, for doing what we as Republicans have been banging on about re removing regulations on drugs."

The FDA has too many regulations, we should be allowed to take whatever drugs we want!

The FDA: ok

No! Not like that

love how we went from teen pregnancy is bad, to why aren't these sluts having more babies

“Rich kids should go to public schools. The mayor should ride the subway to work. When wealthy people get sick, they should be sent to public hospitals. Business executives should have to stand in the same airport security lines as everyone else. The very fact that people want to buy their way out of all of these experiences points to the reason why they shouldn’t be able to. Private schools and private limos and private doctors and private security are all pressure release valves that eliminate the friction that would cause powerful people to call for all of these bad things to get better. The degree to which we allow the rich to insulate themselves from the unpleasant reality that others are forced to experience is directly related to how long that reality is allowed to stay unpleasant. When they are left with no other option, rich people will force improvement in public systems. Their public spirit will be infinitely less urgent when they are contemplating these things from afar than when they are sitting in a hot ER waiting room for six hours themselves.”

There’s so much press about the South Korean and Norwegian education systems being the top internally. When I was in school, we did all sorts of reading and analysis of it, especially compared to American education. We were told that the American system is successful (though much lower testing) through the teacher connections with the students. South Korea is successful because the programs are massively competitive (and horribly stressful.) Norway is successful because ????.

Then, years later I read that Norway forbids school fees.

I can’t believe that information wasn’t given to me in the hours of analysis I had about their schooling and success. If you don’t allow people to insulated themselves at private schools with fees, or cherry pick public schools that loophole fees (like charters, which are private schools that get public funds,) it’s in the wealthy’s best interest to invest in the local school and rising tides lift all boats.

One of the things that blows my mind in the United States is the fact that Public School funds come from local property taxes. Rich public school kids get a rich education, and poor public school kids get a poor education. Unless they test out into one of the magnet schools.

In New York City for example, a public school in zip code 10024 with a median income of $200,000 has vastly different outcomes than a public school in zip code 10474 with a median income of $50,000. So even if you are a rich kid going to public school in a rich neighborhood you're still getting a way better education than a poor kid in a poor neighborhood.

Seriously, how is there not just a fixed budget per student across the board for the whole city.

Aughhh... hanging out at a commercial TV shoot today. And I really did forget how fuckin tedious so many actors are. Like just no fuckin social skills. A strange selection and combination of egocentric, insecure, unselfaware, and sociopathic.

Seeing this more than once on the internet, so I thought I'd ask. Y'all know that cocaine is extracted from the coca plant and not the cocoa (cacao) plant, right?

Like...Theobroma cacao gives you chocolate. And no part of it is cocaine.

Erythroxylum sp makes cocaine.

Context for non-Indians: a 16th century masjid was demolished in the 90s by a massive group of BJP-aligned rioters due to beliefs that it was built on top of the birthplace of Rama, a Hindu diety. When I say "demolished" I mean that a BJP rally of 150,000 people devolved into a riot and literally attacked the Babri Masjid and destroyed it. The Indian Supreme Court then awarded the land to Hindus to build a temple to Rama on the site based on some kinda argument that there once was a temple there a long time ago. The demolition of the Masjid led to insane riots and intercommunal violence between Hindus and Muslims. Modi has made the construction and consecration of this temple a big political propaganda project for him to maintain support among conservative Hindus. Essentially the message behind this "holiday" is: fuck Muslims, India belongs to Hindus. If you disagree you will be subjected to incredible violence. This is what Modi and the Hindutva fascists are trying to communicate to the Indian populace.

The construction of the temple was the centre of Hindutva fascist revival in the 90s – this is a huge victory. That supreme court argument was incredibly specious abuse of legalism, historical evidence and archaeology. Its not just a holiday today, it's been a weeklong festival where muslims have been subjected to intense police surveillance. One last thing, not one single person has been convicted for the murders that occurred during the riots. This model is expected to be expanded to other mosques in the country. Atleast three mosques are currently being investigated by the court.

Excellent reminder of why I can never return to the mothership. Way for Modi to wipe his shitbag ass with the constitution.

just quit volunteering for an online anti-disinfo/osint group i've been part of since since 2017 cos there's so much malicious bs on-line r now that my spiritual health is in more danger than my mental health. which is saying something because i've been a low-key functional alcoholic for years

all I'm going to say about the news+info milieu these days

  • you don't need to have a side if you have principles
  • take several hours to verify before re-tweet/post/blog/share
  • governments are not innocent, impartial, or righteous
  • and if you want to change the world for the better, go read "the wretched of the earth" and not letter to america ffs shit goddamn
