The Potential Who Cared...
Stills from a recent crossover video I made.
Chaos surrounds her. Amy feels afraid for the first time.
She hadn’t been afraid when the demons with no eyes had stalked her and murdered Rory when he tried to protect her. Oh, God… Rory. His death had made her so strong and so weak. She loved him and she never told him. When the man named Rupert Giles found her crying over Rory’s body and tried to explain that she was special, that the ‘Bringers’ had wanted her dead, not Rory, that he had just gotten in the way, she had cried harder. Because he didn’t have to die. It should have been her.
The blond American Slayer, Buffy Summers, had shown her that she could take her pain, her anger, and her love for Rory, and use it as fuel to fight evil… her greatest weaknesses become a weapon against the demons.
And somehow, somewhere along the way, she fell for the woman who helped her heal.
It was mad, of course, because Buffy thinks only of others and of saving the world. Buffy’s been hurt by so many that maybe she can’t ever love anyone, let alone another woman.
But Amy knows that she will never move on from this, just like she will never forget Rory and how much he loved her.
It’s ironic, really, that things have come full circle. Instead of being the object of desire, she is the one who desires.
It takes her breath away every time she realizes that she is ‘The Potential who loves The Slayer’.
And this moment is one of those. Surrounded by the chaos of the final battle against The First Evil.
Buffy’s been stabbed, run through, struck down by one of the demons during the final battle… and Amy’s heart stops.
She drops her weapon and runs to Buffy’s side as she drops to the ground.
“Buffy,” she begs, “Please get up!”
Buffy forces her head up and locks eyes with Amy.
“Amy,” she murmurs, “I’m done.”
Amy shakes her head spastically, and thinks ‘This must be how Rory felt’. “You can’t be done,” she protests, “We need you. The world needs you.” She pauses, swallows, and mutters “I need you.”
Buffy blinks, surprised, wincing in pain, “Amy…” she says slowly, and Amy cuts her off.
“Iloveyou,” she rushes, “I love you so much… please don’t give up.”
Buffy swallows and they share moment of silence, despite the chaos raging around them.
Buffy stands, slowly and in obvious pain, taking her hand, and saying “Alright.”
The moment ends, like all moments do, and they return to the fray.
But things are different now. Because there is a new love to use as a weapon.
And the First Evil is going to loose.
