the weirdest thing about a lot of the common criticisms of millennials i see is that they all seem to boil down to:
you are soft. you believe the world should be kind. you expect people to treat you fairly. you think your needs are important, that you deserve to be listened to, that you shouldn’t be hungry and frightened and in pain.
and people are seriously SO OFFENDED by this. like, how dare you. how dare you believe the world might be a good place, how dare you believe you should be treated well just for existing. life is pain, princess, anyone who tells you different is selling something, now wipe that smile off your face, shut your mouth and go suffer like i did.
and it’s just like… i have a kid. if she grows up expecting better treatment than i experienced as a young woman, i’m doing my job. i know the world isn’t perfect, but random cruelty isn’t something we should just shrug our shoulders and accept, and it’s so fucking weird how angry people get at youngsters who refuse to do just that.

Phone-friendly movie theaters for millennials are coming
AMC Entertainment’s new CEO Adam Aron wants to appeal to more to millennials by letting them use their phones in theaters.
“When you tell a 22-year-old to turn off the phone, don’t ruin the movie, they hear ‘please cut off your left arm above the elbow,’” Aron tells Variety. “You can’t tell a 22-year-old to turn off their cellphone. That’s not how they live their life.” Aron believes that AMC needs “to reshape our product in some concrete ways so that millennials go to movie theaters with the same degree of intensity as baby boomers went to movie theaters throughout their lives.”
The CEO is aware that his company is “going to have to figure out a way to do it that doesn’t disturb today’s audiences.” When asked whether there might be certain sections that allow texting, Aron replies “That’s one possibility. What may be more likely is we take specific auditoriums and make them more texting-friendly.”

How to get millennials to go to the movies more:
1) Retire so we can actually achieve career-level jobs and have some extra cash to go to the movies, AND/OR
2) Pay us a livable minimum wage so we have enough to live on and maybe have some extra cash to go to the movies.
3) Create movies that aren’t all about cis, straight, white people.

To this day, I don’t “look poor.” I have a nice apartment, the right kind of job, clothes that don’t look like I bought them all on clearance years ago. But don’t let my appearance fool you — I’m that Millennial who is ruining the economy with my choices.
I don’t own a vehicle, and I likely won’t be anywhere near able to afford homeownership until I’m well into my 30s (no matter how many people tell me it’s “actually not that hard” to get together a downpayment) in no small part because I started my path to adulthood, as I was told to do, at a five-figure deficeit. And frequently, at the end of a pay period, after paying rent and another $600 in student loans for the privilege of becoming the first in my family to graduate from college, I’m right back to being one unforeseen expense away from an overdraw.
I don’t look poor — most of us don’t — but that doesn’t mean a whole lot.
