When the Nazi concentration camps were liberated by the Allies, it was a time of great jubilation for the tens of thousands of people incarcerated in them. But an often forgotten fact of this time is that prisoners who happened to be wearing the pink triangle (the Nazis’ way of marking and identifying homosexuals) were forced to serve out the rest of their sentence. This was due to a part of German law simply known as “Paragraph 175” which criminalized homosexuality. The law wasn’t repealed until 1969.

This should be required learning, internationally.

You need to know this. You need to remember this. This is not something to swept under the carpet nor be forgotten.

Never. Too many have died for the way they have loved. That needs stop now.

Make it stop

I did a report on this in my World History class my sophomore year of high school. It was incredibly unsettling.

My teacher shown the class this. Mostly everyone in the class felt uncomfortable.

I have reblogged this in the past, but it is so ironic that it comes across my dash right now. I a currently working as a docent at my city’s Holocaust Education Center (( I say currently because I’ve also done research and translation for them )) and out current exhibit is one on loan from the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum ((USHMM)). This is a little known historical fact that Paragraph 175 was not repealed after the war and those convicted under Nazi laws as a danger to society because they were gay were not released because they had be convicted in a court of law. There was no liberation or justice for them as they weren’t considered criminals, or even victims for that matter. They were criminals who remained persecuted and ostracized and kept on the fringes of society for decades after the war had been won. Paragraph175 wasn’t actually repealed until 1994. And it was only in May 2002, that the German parliament completed legislation to pardon all homosexuals convicted under Paragraph175 during the Nazi era. History has forgotten about these men and women — please educate yourselves so this does not happen again. Remember this history. Remember them.

Tumblr tends to be very America-centric so can we just turn our eyes for a minute to the UK

Specifically to this woman.

Earlier today, Jo Cox, a Labour MP in Northern England, was stabbed and shot at an event in a library.

It has just been confirmed that she has died due to the attack.

She was a great campaigner and humanitarian, and has left behind a husband and two children.

This kind of event happens rarely in the UK, and so this is terrifying and destabilising that such a horrific thing has happened to such a compassionate person.

Can thoughts on Tumblr turn to the UK today please, and turn to remember a woman who has been brutally murdered after a lifetime of trying to build a better country.

an alternate universe where graham, by some miracle, lives. and after the curse is broken he realises that he had been raped for over 28 years. that he was used over and over again for one person’s selfish needs, and was made to believe that he enjoyed it. hell, he used to look forward to his nights with regina, and doesn’t even know if it was truly un-consensual— how could he, he thinks, when there were people out there treated so much worse than he ever was in the lap of luxury? i wouldn’t be surprised if he had some hand in greg’s father’s death, and has to live with that memory everyday. he refuses to continue working for his rapist, hands in his badge and weapon, and spends his time in the forest. he doesn’t seek out emma. he doesn’t seek out ruby, or even his wolf friend, because a heartless man filled with shame has no desire to show his face amongst the people he calls his friends. especially not when storybrooke gossips behind his back, about the mayor’s plaything abandoned and demoted to simple civil servant. he used to think he liked being alone, but graham soon learns that there is a great difference between solitude and loneliness. the wolf seeks him out, but it isn’t the same, not a true pack, especially since he still has no heart back. and then he wonders if maybe he was better off dead.

Ten Truths about being Fat- inspired by the Daily Mail

In response to several ‘news’ stories I’ve seen today on the Daily Mail website and the comments on them. I myself am ‘fat’, being a size 20 in British sizing. Yes, also, I keep abreast of several news websites. It’s one of my ‘quirks’ and probably one of my more useful ones, at least academically.

Anyway, this is partly as a reminder to myself (as I have issues with my own body image) and partly for others:

During a debate between Senator Margaret Sitte & Dr. Kristen Cain about the abortion restriction bills in North Dakota, Sen. Sitte makes a litle slip.

She stumbles and admits that outside interests are behind the unconstitutional abortion bans in the state and are willing to spend MILLIONS OF DOLLARS to make sure that people in North Dakota won’t have the right to an abortion.

Watch when she’s called out on trying to lie her way out of it.

As if there was ever any doubt.

Ugh. That is gross.

Other people's money DOES NOT get to decide that I do with MY body.

"The Steubenville rape victim was certainly someone’s daughter. She may have been someone’s sister. Someday she might even be someone’s wife. But these are not the reasons why raping her was wrong. This rape, and any rape, was wrong because women are people. Women are people, rape is wrong, and no one should ever be raped. End of story."

CNN grieves that guilty verdict ruined ‘promising’ lives of Steubenville rapists (by TheSublimeDegree)

This is disgusting. CNN, how dare you victim-shame a girl who was carried around to multiple parties and violated over an over again by saying she “ruined the promising football careers” of her rapists? The boys who CHOSE to violate her over and over again? This makes me sick. Absolutely sick.

The boys did ruin their own lives and thats lamentable, but the victim didnt choose this… where is her voice?

Reblogging my own post because what laurenmateo added is so important. Her voice is being shut down and suppressed and only the voices of the boys (who are the rapists, who are the violators, who are in the wrong, because they harmed another human bring) are being promoted.

So wrong.
