THE RINGS OF POWER (2022–) 2.04: ELDEST
THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE RINGS OF POWER (2022 - ) Season 1, Episode 6: Udûn
TOLKIEN LADIES: Galadriel
“Galadriel was the greatest of the Noldor, except Fëanor maybe, though she was wiser than he, and her wisdom increased with the long years.”
Morfydd Clark as Galadriel in The Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power
I remember when the first of these were carved. The likeness of one fallen, preserved upon a living thing. I suppose some part of me always believed my rest would be here. But then, instead, I am to leave them.
Okay, Galadriel was seriously obsessed with two things: power and pissing off Feanor. (Although it is interesting that she had no problem with anyone else in the family, including his sons.)

Reasons why Galadriel is a tacky person and I don’t like her. :’D
Reasons why I think Galadriel is an interesting character. =p
She’s so keen on being different and “better than Fëanor”, while actually she and him bear some resemblance. Also, she’s powerhungry and proud, yet by Third Age manages to be very respected by people who perhaps should know better…
Reasons why I still like Galadriel’s character in spite of her colonialist tendencies. (Same goes for her brother, who is not the plaster saint fandom makes him out to be). I completely understand her motivations here. She can be such a fascinatingly dark character, which is somewhat amusing as she’s a source of light in LotR.
Disliking Fëanor only makes me grant her a few more points in her favor. :’)
All the reasons I <3 Galadriel; she’s fierce and proud and strong but she learns. She listens to others. She may be Noldor, but she marries one of the Sindar, she learns from the elves of Middle-Earth, when her cousins are off establishing kingdoms she’s in Doriath learning what Melian and the Sindar have to teach her, and while she eventually does rule it’s beside Celeborn, /after/ she’s learned to temper her pride and strength with wisdom.
And yeah, that she had the good sense to hate Feanor from the start definitely wins her points in my book.
Not to mention that wow - flawed, vindictive female character who is not labelled a straight-up villain and actually gets a character arc of her own. I’m not the biggest fan of her succumbing to the long defeat that she and Celeborn fought, at least not in the bigger scale of Tolkien’s depiction of female characters, but I daresay she was intended to be exceptional, and in that she very much convinced.
