Some Days You Just Need a Blanket Nest
“Is that the last of them?” Sam Wilson was out of breath as he shoved another grousing Hydra soldier towards the prison transport bus. “Cut your whining, man,” Sam added to the grunt.
The attack on the Upstate base had been sudden and brutal.
Some of the Avengers had returned just after the Hydra forces had stalled in their attack on the science labs. Apparently, an astrophysicist used her experimental know-how to transport attackers into the tops of various trees in the woods around the base. Few of them had found their way back down from their unwelcome perches about two hundred feet in the air. Falcon had flown over fifty of them to the ground where Steve and Natasha processed and loaded them into a prison transport.
Steve grinned, “yes, Sam. That’s the last. Nice work.”
“Nice work, my tired ass. You two need to get a way to fly so you can be more useful.” Sam rubbed one aching arm. He looked up, still scanning treetops as he chuckled to himself. “That was a pretty funny thing to come back to. When the alarms sounded, I was actually worried about our scientists. Silly me.”
Steve’s grin faded. “Me, too.” He kept his eyes on the paperwork he was finishing, avoiding Natasha’s knowing gaze.
