This is why every vote matters. YOUR vote matters. Please vote!

Actually that’s exactly how it works. Here, lemme break down the numbers. I’ll be using the 2020 presidential election voter turnout.

  • In 2020, the total U.S. population was about 332,450,000.
  • Of that number, about 240,000,000 were eligible to vote.
  • Of eligible voters, only about 66.1% actually voted. And that’s a high turnout, historically speaking.
  • Of the 158,427,986 eligible voters who actually voted,
  • 81,283,501 voted for Biden. That’s 24.5% of the overall U.S. population.
  • 74,223,975 voted for Trump. That’s 22% of the overall U.S. population.
  • (I’m guessing the graphic used updated number from 2024 for population size.)
  • But yes, that’s exactly how it all works. Not everyone in the U.S. is eligible to vote (sometimes due to voter suppression, but also due to being too young).
  • Of those who ARE eligible to vote, as many didn’t vote as voted for either Biden or Trump.
  • Who wins is determined by who fucking shows up to vote.
  • Democracy works exactly as well as how much you participate in it.
  • Trump voters are only 22% of the general population.
  • They’re only 31% of eligible voters.
  • They’ll be easy to defeat.
  • IF PEOPLE ACTUALLY FUCKING VOTE.

Which is why it's important to pair posts like this with actual resources on, for example:

See, the thing a lot of people don't get is, the US system is designed to SUPPRESS AND DENY votes. Fun fact for those who went to school elsewhere: none of the stuff I linked is actually required learning in our schools. Followup fact: the reason I mention financial assistance for ID cards is, our free ID (social security card) is not valid for voting in half of states; expensive photo IDs are required.

For the Americans, you must understand: Most places with elections take the exact opposite approach. Do you know how fucked up it is that in the US you can't even get a whole day off work, despite voter queues often being several hours long due to lack of polling places? How absolutely pigshit bonkers it is that people have to PAY to vote (via ID fees)?

The international folks are appalled because that's fucked up! 18% picking your president is unhinged! It actually truly does represent a broken system!

In other words this is a real, systemic issue that can take years to overcome IF you even have the ability to do it at all.

If you're lucky enough not to face any of the hurdles, stay informed on the subject so you can help the rest of us out.

Voter suppression is not caused by personal moral failing.

It's caused by the broken system.

NOAA “should be dismantled and many of its functions eliminated, sent to other agencies, privatized, or placed under the control of states and territories,” Project 2025 reads. The proposals roughly amount to two main avenues of attack. First, it suggests that the NWS should eliminate its public-facing forecasts, focus on data gathering, and otherwise “fully commercialize its forecasting operations,” which the authors of the plan imply will improve, not limit, forecasts for all Americans. Then, NOAA’s scientific-research arm, which studies things such as Arctic-ice dynamics and how greenhouse gases behave (and which the document calls “the source of much of NOAA’s climate alarmism”), should be aggressively shrunk. “The preponderance of its climate-change research should be disbanded,” the document says. It further notes that scientific agencies such as NOAA are “vulnerable to obstructionism of an Administration’s aims,” so appointees should be screened to ensure that their views are “wholly in sync” with the president’s.

Climate change is the single most important issue in the entirety of human history. One party wants to fight it. The other party wants to let the earth burn; in fact, they want to accelerate the fire.

I would like to point out that the big reason for this is the owner of the WeatherNation app/website. He is a massive republican supporter, a climate change denier, and stands to cash in big if his biggest competition is destroyed.

It's gonna be such a funny mess when Donald Trump dies of a stroke on April 1st, 2024.

  • Naturally everybody will think it's fake because of the date only to lose their minds (both positively and negatively based on their opinion of trump) when realizing it's real
  • There will be massive celebrations in the streets and on social media and lots of predictable "don't speak ill of the dead" discourse about those celebrations
  • Weird evangelicals will pull some weird number trick talking about how Jesus was conceived on April 1st and that makes Trump a sort of messiah and people will make fun of that
  • The Republicans (after they're done with the faux-sadness and faux-outrage) will stomp over each other to be his successor but none of them will succeed. They'll tear each other apart and have no single nominee for the November elections.
  • There will be discourse about if Biden and the living former presidents should go to his funeral (they won't, he was a traitor insurrectionist)
  • The Ukraine-Russia War immediately goes in favor of Ukraine as morale in the Kremlin is reduced. China similarly backs off from its threats on Taiwan.
  • Ten thousand new memes are made, some sticking around for years to come.
  • Not a month later a bunch of unofficial biographies of Trump hit the bookshelves, many with new details about just how awful he was.

66% of white women voted for Trump.

Their whiteness is more important than their womanhood to them.

White women want the power of white men.

White women cannot be trusted.

Not all white women. Not this white woman. To put us all into this category won’t help. I will continue to fight for all my friends.

actually, i think otherwise! to put us all into this category highlights our position of power over people whose voices were not heard at the polls yesterday.

it’s like…

rapists can’t be trusted, right? rapists are the absolute scum of the earth. and what’s worse is not knowing who is a rapist. someone in your circle of friends? someone you pass on the street? the person ahead of you in line at starbucks? so you close yourself off from someone who has that power over you. maybe just a little bit, but you’re aware of how you could be hurt. you make plans in your head about how you’d escape if you were attacked; you’re aware of the person behind you at the atm; you go quiet when they start talking about how they treated their dates.

and if a guy said “not all men are rapists!” you’d say, “yeah, but all men can be rapists.”

it makes sense that people of color would put up their barriers and make escape plans from us. with that history, when have we really been allies? when have we been anything but fair-weather friends who love beyonce but think “ghetto” black girls are trashy? how can they know which one of us is one of the nearly 70% of white women in america who voted for trump? which one of us in starbucks or passing by on the street would betray them - has already betrayed them?

there’s a lot that we white women have to do into order to prove ourselves to black women and black communities. it’s really hard to stand up against the status quo, especially when we’re very aware of what we could lost if we speak up. (there goes your job, your friends, your opportunities….) but if black women are living without those opportunities every day, then we have a responsibility to work until they have them and no one can take them away. it’s not up to people of color to give us leeway; it’s up to us to work with our fellow white women to help them understand change.

I cringed when I saw “not all white women”.  Fucking seriously?  Honey, that shit didn’t work when men tried it on us, don’t try it to our sisters of color.

I accept that women of color will be afraid/wary of me at first sight.  I don’t blame them for that.  Instead of being angry that they would class me with other white women, I’m just going to be that much more aware of times and places where I can use the privilege of my skin color to try and make them safer.  Even if the next one that sees me is still afraid.

Why?  Because, in that situation, MY FEELINGS AREN‘T IMPORTANT.   It’s not about ME.  It’s not about YOU, fellow white woman who was so insulted to be grouped with those white women.  No, I didn’t vote for Trump.  But even if I walked around wearing a shirt that claimed otherwise all the time, women of color cannot look at me and know for sure that I’m not one of those white women.

If women of color are fearful of me as a white person (who passes as female), then I understand that. The fear born of something real that they experienced or have witnessed other’s experiencing. Who am I to invalidate their feelings?

Sure, I’ll let them know I’ll try my hardest to be an ally. But at the same time I’m not going to try to convince them of this because I want to make myself feel better or convince myself I’m not part of the problem. As a white person, I benefit from that privilege and I’m prone to doing racist shit. I accept that, and I try my hardest to fix it. But I can’t escape it entirely and it’s asinine that white people think they can escape it.

We can and must do better. We must. Our sisters of color are in even more danger than us, and we have to stand WITH them, not next to them decrying the idea that WE’RE the good ones. I refuse to allow “not all men” to be a conversation in my hearing, and I refuse also, “not all white women.” No. Stop it. White women have harmed women of color. That is the point. We white women who don’t want to be lumped in with those white women need to amplify the voices of our sisters, not justify that we’re the good ones.

Woah, I’ve nearly to never seen a post like this

👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾

Keep it coming ladies.

We cannot expect to be taken seriously if we scoff at men who say “not all men” and then turn our white asses around and say “BUT NOT ALL WHITE WOMEN.”*

*I’m nonbinary & Jewish but I’m aware I’m perceived as a white woman and have the conditional acceptance as both so better fucking own it.

I don’t care who you voted for, white woman like me, we are “in that category” whether we like it or not. Facts are facts. Good intentions are paving stones.

I guarantee the woman with the Trump bumpersticker on her gas guzzling SUV sees my white (not young) face in the Kroger and assumes I voted like she did. She smiles at me, but gives sass to the young Muslim girl in a hijab who works at the store. And until we own that, we can’t respond to the fact that 2/3 of us voted for Trump with a “not me.” It’s a badge we haven’t earned and we can’t wear it.

White feminism is a real, dangerous, tangible thing and we need to fight that first because that is how we help our WOC/POC friends.

We cannot expect to be taken seriously if we scoff at men who say “not all men” and then turn our white asses around and say “BUT NOT ALL WHITE WOMEN.”

Okay but what’s even more badass about Teen Vogue is that the editor in chief is a black woman. Her name is Elaine Welteroth and she is the second black woman to hold this title within the company and is also the youngest. So expect some more ugly truths to be told with Teen Vogue because they are not fucking around. There will be no sugar coating with them, there will be no “giving trump a second chance”, the editor-in-chief is a black woman and she will make sure this particular media outlet spits the truth.

(Lily’s also an editor at Teen Vogue.)

It’s so surreal that a fucking teen fashion magazine has become a bastion of honest journalism while most more “respectable” outlets are too obsessed with “hearing both sides” when one of the sides is spewing a load of bullshit.

Historically British Vogue during the 1920s - which was aimed at youth readers educated readers on the fashion of the mind, including psychology, political topics, as well as actual fashion. It also talked positively about same sex relationships - there is an article by Christopher Reed that talks about it.

I increasingly want to get a subscription to Teen Vogue
