I think one of my favorite Shirbert scenes in the Anne of Avonlea movie was when Anne was dancing by herself with an imaginary man. And instead of finding that strange, Gilbert just smiles, watches her for a moment and pretends to ask the imaginary dancing partner if he can dance with Anne. I think playing pretend is something that people would be embarrassed by, but Gilbert loves it about Anne.
