I do think there is a difference between how men and women are socialized to express emotions but I cannot STAND when men twist that to imply that little girls are never told to “stop crying” or women just have a peachy easy time expressing emotion while men are forced to suffer in silence. Like literally women and girls are CONstantly told that we’re hysterical and overdramatic and irrational for expressing emotion and we explicitly get taken less seriously than men do when we express emotion. Be for real.

For anyone who doesn't think Netflix Wednesday could work with Tyler, please watch or re-watch this movie and pay attention. Thanks.
I ABSOLUTELY HATE THE FACT STEVE LEFT BUCKY IN ENDGAME
you would never make me into thinking steve rogers who started the fucking civil war to protect his "till the end of the line" best friend just left him alone for some woman who he barely knew ALSO KNOWING that in the new timeline bucky would be being tortured for decades
NEVER EVER WOULD I BELIEVE IT
snow saying “it’s the thing we love the most that destroy us” like katniss didnt just take the song that holds his fondest memories with the one girl he loved and turned it into the soundtrack of his downfall 😭😭 gurl
Some of y’all act like basic manners, general human decency, and kindness to others is SO MUCH emotional labor. I don’t like that shit.
My dad told me that he has a coworker who’s a trans woman. She was married to this girl before her transition and they remained together after it. Everyone at work respects her pronouns. My dad is in a chiefing position at his office and he told me that nobody jokes behind her back. She and her wife have two cute dogs together and I felt like I should share this story bc I want everyone to know that this positivity and respect exists and you deserve it. Don’t ever dare think that you don’t because you do.
Update: they have three dogs now
There is a non-binary person I work with who uses they/them pronouns. Their pronouns are in their email signature and the only time I’ve heard someone not use them was one person who had previously worked with them at a time they used different pronouns, and he immediately corrected himself mid-sentence, looked embarrassed, and proceeded. I’ve never heard him or anyone else not use their pronouns again, and my workplace runs the gamut from eighty-year-olds to twenty-year-olds. No one ever discusses their pronouns or anything about their identity behind their back unless it’s to choose a bar or restaurant to hang out (in non-pandemic times) and say “no, we can’t go there, that place doesn’t have a gender neutral restroom for them”. They have been married to a delightful person for ten years and (in non-pandemic times) she would often join for social activities. They have a toddler who is the cutest thing on this earth. They’re an absolutely brilliant engineer and I have learned a great deal from them as they’re much more experienced than I am, and I appreciate how patient they’ve been when I’ve made mistakes. Again, positivity and respect exists and you deserve it every bit as much as these people. Don’t ever forget it.
Y'all really underestimate the power of a really good conversation with someone who is genuinely interested in getting to know you as a person, not as a partner.
incredibly grateful that tumblr doesn’t have a memories feature like every other social media platform because frankly i am terrified to even think about what kind of tomfoolery and hooliganery i was getting into 6 years ago on this website
tumblr’s memories feature is other users, because every once in a while one of you motherfuckers will reblog a post i made in like 2012 and detonate all of my bones like they’re C4
Thank god for this glow up
The most relatable character in the whole show isn't Sam or Bucky it's the guy who spat on Walker's face
Other ways to quit fucking up Holmes adaptations:
Acknowledge the romantic nature of the relationship between Holmes and Watson and let them live it joyfully and openly from the start
Acknowledge and address Holmes’s neurodivergence.
Acknowledge and address Watson’s mental illness.
Stop trying to make Irene Adler a love interest. They met twice, once at her wedding, upon which occasion, she tipped him for serving as a witness.
Stop trying to give Holmes a grand nemesis. Moriarty appears in one single story and is mentioned in one other as a retcon. It’s not that deep.
Acknowledge and address the fact that Holmes’s services are provided mainly to marginalized people who had little recourse through the official channels.
Stop dragging the racism from the original stories around.
Let Holmes be as kind and gentle and generous and merry as he is in the original stories
Stop lifting all your characterization from other adaptations, because frankly most of them get some really important stuff wrong
Read the books and actually adapt from the books!!
if you add ‘this except the part about moriarty because i love him’ i’m gonna come to your house and delete my post from your blog i’m BEGGING you to understand moriarty is nothing he’s literally just a plot device that’s IT
Hi there! I don't know if this has ever been pointed out before, but I was re-watching season 2 of Lucifer and it hit me -- if everyone in a person's Hell loop is played by a demon, does that mean Lucifer was tortured by one of his own demons when he got trapped there replaying Uriel's death? I think the implications of that could be pretty interesting for when he returns to rule Hell at the end of season 4. Thoughts?
I think, realistically, it’s probably just a case of the writers’ not quite knowing what they were doing when they started out.
but yeah, I guess it does mean that Lucifer was tortured by his own demons, that somewhere, a demon watched their own Lord get caught in a loop (and was stabbed by him many times??)
Crack theory time: I can’t help but wonder, given Dromos’ lack of respect and fear to Lucifer (contrasted with how demons seem to easily obey orders in s5a) that it was Dromos who played Uriel in Lucifer’s loop. Much to think about on this one.
I’m not convinced that the writers thought that far ahead, but it makes sense.
you'd think that demons would have a lot more sympathy for the virgin sacrifices and a lot less for the guy holding both of them captive against their will
guy wearing a hooded robe and holding a tome of ancient magic: o foul demon, i have summoned you here to -
the demon, walking straight past the sacrifice and towards the guy who summoned them with murderous intent: is this guy bothering you queen?
“but the age of consent in other countries is…”
As a history major I also want add to the beautiful comments on this post that things weren’t “different back then” either.
The average medieval woman was married in her early or mid twenties.
Arranged marriages might have rarely been performed at a younger age, but it was absolutely not normal for them to be consummated, and the punishment for pedophilia when it could be proved was usually far worse than it is today.
Stop using medieval inspired fantasy as an escape for your sick bullshit.
Medievalist piping in to add yes he’s right. Child marriages were looked on with disdain and disgust in the Middle Ages. Arranged marriages might be performed as a rite and to secure land but it was kind of obvious to everyone involved that it was a legality thing and that the pair of children or child involved would not actually be involved in anything until they were an adult. Because that’s never been acceptable.
And before anyone says “but Ancient Greece!”…. no.
It is true that pedastery was practiced in Ancient Athens, modelling themselves on Minoan Crete, and that the younger partner in such a relationship could be as young as 15.
What they don’t tell you is that the age of majority in Ancient Athens was… also 15. These young men were old enough to vote, marry, and own land. You know, what we’d call in the modern era “a legal adult.” And even then, the sexual aspects of pedastery were frowned upon until the younger partner could grow out a full beard. These relationships were mainly used as a gateway into Athenian elite circles and to teach all the complex social customs practices therein, not as an excuse to bone underage boys (though I’m sure some unscrupulous individuals used it that way. It wasn’t the norm, though).
And many of the older partners werent that much older, usually in their early to late 20’s.
So yeah, the Athenians would look at you leering at that 14-year-old and also want to vom. An adult thirsting after someone below the age of majority has (surprise!) always been considered super taboo!
It’s almost like we created the age of majority to decide the age at which most people are mature enough to make important, adult decisions like marriage. And sure, in our modern era, that age is no longer 15 (and for good reason!), but when we analyse these sorts of practices, they require more historical context than just “the Greeks were paedophiles.”
historyblr is absolutely tearing apart MAP apologists in this thread and I’m all for it
