This is EXACTLY why Bucky Barnes is my favorite character and it brings me so much joy to finally see a little bit of it on screen.

I feel like an extremely minor 616!Bucky moment that really sums up who Bucky is as a character is when he and Natasha are strolling in the rain and he begins to whine about it and she’s like “...seriously? That’s too much for you? You fought Nazis.” and he just straight up says “If I have to compare everything to fighting Nazis, I’ll never get to complain about anything.” and I remember stopping and smiling because that’s it. Bucky hits every trope of the grimdark hero but instead of becoming the grimdark hero he just... complains a lot about inconsequential things in ways that hurt no one. He remains sweet and genuinely upbeat as a rule, he’s just... gonna make sure the world knows when he’s Mildly Inconvenienced. He’s 100% on board with helping you move on a weekend! He’s just gonna complain about random stuff while he does it and he won’t expect you to understand half of what he’s even talking about, he just has a complaining quota to meet, like a psychological fitbit that measures harmless irritation

One of the things i especially hate about steves ending is that its so laser focused on peggy like he couldn't possibly miss anyone else from before he was frozen.

Like he just woke up one day and everyone he knew and loved was dead but he ONLY went back for peggy??? What about the commandos?? What about Howard stark?? What about just anyone else that he knew??

They could've shown us steve and Peggy's wedding with the commandos as his first men, they could've shown steve searching for bucky now that he knows hydra still exists and they're experimenting on him, they could've shown us so much more that would've made his ending still bad but less shitty.

But no.

All he cared about was Peggy.

No other important people in his life that he lost when he was frozen for 70 years.

I know it’s essentially supposed to be a joke BUT if we consider the Fox X-Men Days of Future Past where Magneto is in prison for “assassinating JFK”, except he explains to Quicksilver that he was framed and was actually trying to *save* JFK because “he was one of us” (deep breath) AND we remember that in TWS HYDRA was all about Project Insight - targeting known and potential threats… it just makes sense.

HYDRA was always trying to do it, they just didn’t have the enormous firepower of Project Insight. Although Bucky must’ve been deep undercover because I don’t know how Magneto missed that metal arm.

Yes please I love that, I need more X-Men and Avengers crossovers and theories. Hydra would totally assassinate a mutant president and that's exactly the type of thing they'd use Bucky for, plus he's literally a trained sniper. Perhaps Bucky was far enough away for Magneto not to detect him and that's also why he failed to stop the bullet, it happened so fast and he just barely detected it and started bending before it hit JFK.

Maybe the place was just so loud and busy he couldn't focus, or maybe Hydra knew someone like Erik or other mutant supremacists would be there and they planned against them. They might have even tipped the government off on his abilities and the strange instance of a curving bullet to get him imprisoned 🧐

But that's just a theory, a game theory-

I suppose the chances of seeing anyone with a metal arm are fairly remote, so if you’re not expecting it 🤔 plus HYDRA/SHEILD would have a legit reason to a) be around the cavalcade and b) taking over certain buildings to establish “security”

The other question is what kind of mutant would JFK have been? I’m leaning towards something like Kayla in the Wolverine Origins film - suggestion through touch. A very useful “skill” for a politician.

That's why politicians shake everyone's hands omggg. That would be wild. Also why hydra needed to assassinate him - shield would have been influencing him and controlling global security, but once they realize that HE was controlling THEM because his interests diverged from their mission and they were losing their grasp on him due to his mutation, they had to come up with an assassination from "the outside".

Also it's theorized that JFK was killed for his efforts of emancipating African countries from colonialism (and just his overall progressiveness), he was really passionate about African independence and personally met with a ton of African leaders/Prime Ministers - it makes sense he'd want to personally meet with them to use his mutation to push them towards independence. (These countries are still to this day not free btw like it's very frustrating. Free Congo, free Sudan...)

Hydra would be all over controlling those governments, stealing their resources... so when they realized JFK was destabilizing their control they'd end him quickly, since they couldn't just rig against his re-election when he was so powerful and influential. So I really like your theory, that mutation would work well for him.

Tying further into the Marvel universe I’d say JFK had underground ties with Wakanda who of course would have a vested interest in outside governments looking to “acquire” resources from African nations.

I’d say his mutation would work on the incumbent black panther *but* they see him for what he is straight away and accept that this coloniser might be workable.

One day, one of their heists is intercepted by a new institute unit and it's here that the pair find that Ballister is not quite dead... and.. not quite himself.

Why Bucky Barnes is the best Sniper Ever to Ever

My coworker is gun obsessed and she was telling me about snipers and how exceedingly rare it is for someone to be a successful sniper. Of course my mind immediately applied these random tid bits to Bucky Barnes.

As most of you may have already known there’s this thing called the coriolis effect. Basically, a long distance target, even if completely still, is technically a ‘moving target’ because the earth is rotating while the bullet is maintaining a relatively straight path. Thus, when shooting over 1000 yards (.56 miles) this needs to be factored in. (I’m not even going to go into spin drift: the rotating motion of the barrel of the gun).

Out to 1000 yards you could have nearly a full minute of correction because of coriolis effect depending on which direction you are shooting. Ie if you are shooting East your target is going to be dropping. If you are shooting towards the West your target is going to rotate up.

So, now-a-days we have automatic calculators for figuring out the coriolis effect quickly and accurately. Long distance shooters use daily updated data to build a drop chart or ballistic compensations. But, back when Bucky was a sniper they still used the mathematical formula for the coriolis effect to position their shots accurately. Bucky would have needed to know the relative motion of the object, the motion of the earth, and the latitude he was shooting from (as well as wind speeds etc) and then he would have had to compensate each shot almost to the tee in order to hit his targets.

Here’s the vector formula for the impact of the coriolis effect:

Bucky had to calculate this every time he positioned himself from his sniping position. In our fictitious MCU there is probably a tiny notebook floating around with Bucky’s scribbled equations. 

If this doesn’t prove Bucky’s a fucking brainiac I don’t know what does.
