"How’s the handsome cousin?”
“I don’t know… I don’t…”
“Speak, Miss Everdeen. Him, I can easily kill off if we don’t come to a happy resolution,” he says. “You aren’t doing him a favor by disappearing into the woods with him each Sunday.”
#that kiss was a national security threat #it was important enough that president snow came all the way to district 12 to try to stomp it out himself #why? #because that kiss was the rebellion #that kiss means that katniss isn’t just some girl head-over-heels in love with peeta #that kiss means that part of how she acted in the games was just for the audience#that kiss means that her relationship with gale is something only for the woods #that kiss means that the berries she put in peeta’s hand weren’t about saving the boy she loves #more than about saving herself #they were rebellion #and this kiss is the key to all of that #of course she loves gale #of course she has to hide it #loving gale is a rebellion in and of itself
In case you forgot, Gale forced that kiss on Katniss because he said he had to try it. In case you haven’t read the books AT ALL, there are so many hints that what Katniss did with Peeta was only fabricated to a small extent. It’s about as subtle as a freight train.

Seriously, that particular kiss wasn’t even returned on Katniss’ part and is in a dubious-consensual area. Romanticizing it as some wonderful, rebellious thing is…no.
Edited to add that this kind of encapsulates one of my major problems with Gale as a character. It’s claimed that he represents rebelliousness, standing up to oppression, etc., but in fact he is consistently shitty, controlling, and demanding in his behavior towards Katniss. Sorry, but there’s nothing revolutionary about a man who thinks he’s entitled to a woman and behaves badly.
