🌌Amethyst - The All Healer🌌
Chakra: Crown
Birthstone: Pisces
Celebrations: 6th Anniversary of Marriage
Tarot Card: Temperance; represents balance.
Gods/Goddesses: Artemis (Greek); Diana (Roman)
🌌The Science🌌
Mineral Class: Oxide, Quartz Group
Color: Various hues of violet. The color is largely due to traces of iron that it contains that are lodged in the crystal lattice.
Formed: Hydro-thermally from weak, iron-containing silicic acid solutions. Typically found in hollows that are formed by gas bubbles in volcanic rock. Also, but more rarely, found in rock clefts and rocks with cracks or passages through them.
To keep in mind: Sunlight and exposure to heat causes the color to deteriorate. Also, avoid any contact with chemicals.
🌌The Mythology🌌
The crystal Amethyst gets it’s name from the Greek word Amethustos meaning “Non-inebriated”. According to Greek mythology, Amethyst was a young virgin who suffered the wrath of Dionysus (Roman God: Bacchus) after He had gotten drunk off of red wine. Amethyst cried to Goddess Artemis (Roman Goddess: Diana) for help and She immediately turned Amethyst into a white, shimmering stone (clear quartz). When Dionysus realized what had happened, He felt remorse for His actions and cried. His tears dripped into His goblet of red wine. The goblet overflowed and the red wine and tears spilled over the clear rock; saturating it until it became the purple quartz known as Amethyst.
In Ancient Egyptian Mythology, Amethyst represented the Zodiac sign The Goat. The Goat was considered the enemy of vines and vineyards, therefore making it the antidote of wine. It has also been said that Amethyst could prevent the bearer from becoming excessively drunk.
In the Middle Ages, Konrad Con Megenberg defined Amethyst as a mineral that “makes a bad person better, disperses bad thoughts, brings good common sense, and makes one mild and gentle”. In Arabic countries, it is not unheard of for them to leave Amethyst under their pillow to prevent nightmares.

🌌Stitchy’s Notes🌌
I can honestly say that I use Amethyst every day of my life. It’s so incorporated into my craft and lifestyle that it’s no wonder that Amethyst is known as the most effective crystal for people, plants, and animals! I have a HUGE soft spot for Amethyst as Baxter is one! Not only do I use Baxter for divination, but also part of my (attempted) daily meditation. I also have them under our pillows for peaceful sleep for my boyfriend and to encourage prophetic dreams for myself. They’re scattered throughout our place and on my desk at work. Amethyst helps me concentrate when I’m working on journaling, especially in my divination grimoire. If there was any stone that I would recommend for a beginner witch or diviner, it would be Amethyst 100% of the time!
