it's part of the general trend of hiding the inner workings of computers from the user, which is something i hate since it tends to promote computer illiteracy which tends to promote incompetence and dysfunction in society as a whole

As someone in advanced manufacturing, I HIGHLY recommend both welding and NDT (non-destructive testing) inspection as trade fields to consider. We always struggle with hiring for both of those because there's a huge shortage of people with those skills!
