Hi, longtime lurker first time caller, I was just reading the description of the Astral Dreadnought in the Tome of Foes and saw: "Tharizdun, the Chained God, created astral dreadnoughts to devour planar travelers who were seeking portals that lead from the Astral Plane to the Outer Planes — portals they might use to gaze upon their gods or realize some dream of godhood." I haven't seen anyone mention this!

I wish I had more of a mind for theorizing and keeping track of big plot stuff because Holy Shit!! I’m now even more relieved that they left Halas in his gem prison. I’ll be curious to see if we encounter any more dreadnoughts down the line though!

Maaaaan, I’ve been rewatching early episodes and am blown away by how many detailed hints Matt’s been dropping since Day One...all alluding to The Chained Oblivion.

And now that we’re seeing Tharizdun’s influence LITERALLY sleeping through the cracks, I think we’ll find more folks/powers directly tied to the Betrayer God. Here’s a fun lore reminder from way back in the day...

MATT: Much of the recent studies into current drow society across Exandria speak of growing paranoia and madness that's seeping in with the believed influence of Tharizdun, the Chained Oblivion. Whether it be by proximity of remnants of his power deep beneath the surface that have grown close to these societies, but there is whispers and research that says that some of these dark elf societies are being driven slowly mad by this influence. Strangely, what studies you've been able to find that talk about penetrating the Kryn Dynasty's intense boundaries... there is little in iconography under Lolth or Tharizdun. And what remains of that is ancient and crumbling and largely ignored by the society. (From “Commerce & Chaos,” C2E31 Transcript)

Random Ramble:

The Chained Oblivion

I need to research. What might happen if TCO got its hands (does it have hands?!) on a Beacon, ripe with soul energy? It’s already systematically tearing through the seams of planes. It’s hungry. What if it nommed ALL THE BEACONS?

Every time we think we have a handle on what is happening, the main focus of conflict and interest and direction, we are reminded to think larger. Think “I keep my personal study in the mouth of an Astral Dreadnaught” levels of large.

Side note: Who’s gonna tell Essek his agents are actually infiltrating The Chained Oblivion and NOT the cult of the Angel of Irons? Am I remembering that correctly? Did I hallucinate that scene? Am I blowing this out of proportion or is this pretty fucking bad?

the beauyasha angst of the upcoming arc… with beau, a servant of the knowing mistress, having to face off against yasha, a puppet of the chained oblivion…… OH i can’t wait

[ID: A picture of text from the Tal’Dorei Campaign Setting, reading “The few remaining followers of the Knowing Mistress are dedicated to ensuring the Oblivion is never again unchained. Their goddess led the charge against the all-consuming destroyer god’s re-emergence, and though her bravery allowed the other gods of good to shackle their enemy, the victory nearly cost her immortal life. Some say the Knowing Mistress can only be fully restored if the Chained Oblivion is destroyed for good.”]
