I gave this some thought and the lightbulb finally came on last night, so here we are! Nina x Gray, from Nina’s point of view.
16. In dreams
In dreams I meet you on a sandy beach at dawn. We hold hands and watch the sunrise quietly, basking in the newfound warmth of the morning sun, the familiar warmth of your hand in mine. In dreams I am yours and you are mine and we are each other’s. In dreams, being together is as natural as breathing, as walking, as smiling when you’re by my side.
In dreams we walk down rainbow roads and wave at dancing cowboys, we steal kisses in the moonlight, we laugh and giggle and kiss some more.
In dreams I can be Nina Wiseman Black, the one you chose, the one you saw. In dreams I am the one. I am your Nina, just like in real life.
Except in dreams you know.
And in real life you don’t.
And I have fallen and I can’t tell you and I don’t ever want things to change.
But I do.
But I don’t.
I’ll stay here a little longer, in my dreams, where you and I are together, where the roads are made of fluffy clouds and sunlight, where you’re not afraid to touch me, or hold me, or to be close.
Just a little longer. Just until I wake. So I can be wrapped up in you, and you in me, your arms around my body, my cheek against your chest.
But only in dreams.
