I’ve had Samuel as a character for a while now but I realized I haven’t talked about him much. I sketched this like a month ago and kinda forgot about it until today, and slapped on some quick lineart and color.
So Sam here is the one who accompanies Jarvaazim when he makes the trip to Skyhold. On the ship Samuel is the first mate to the crew, but his relationship with Jarvaazim is very personal as well; it’s almost like a father-son thing, they go back a long way and they’re close. Jarvaazim is extremely protective of him and he will outright murder-knife you if you do anything to harm him. Not that anyone would want hurt a kind old man I think (unless you’re a heartless bastard), Sam is like the self-appointed unofficial grandpa to everyone in the Inquisition. XD
Samuel is actually based on my own grandfather in a multitude of ways. I loosely based his appearance on him, but also his fondness for nature and his past as a gardener, as well as the fact that despite his advanced age, Samuel is not one to sit back and do nothing. My own grandfather is 98 years old but still lives in his own house, does his own groceries, cooks and on warm days can still be found tinkering in the garden. I love my gramps and I’m so proud of him! <3
So yes! I’m already very fond of him as a character, and he’s one of the only ones Jarvaazim will seriously listen to. He’s also the only one in Skyhold - currently - who knows about Jarvaazim’s well kept secret - he hasn’t told anyone yet that he’s completely deaf on one side because he considers it a weakness that could be exploited by others (though the signs are there if you look for it, he favors the other side), and Samuel’s herbal brews are the only thing that help against the migraines that often plague him because of it.
