What was really the point of Bjorn sleeping with Ealhswith (it’s not Elsewith, Hirst), if he was going to be thrown into this not-Thorunn omg I think this could be love already romance so quick? Like was there a point to him fucking with Alfred’s soon to be wife, and messing that whole thing up? If that turns out to have no consequences, I’m going to be really annoyed, because it was for nothing and as much as I HATE to say it, Alfred and his wife are not that annoying, all the time, but they have that big fucking thing hanging over their head all the time, when I see her. It sucks too, because I love Róisín Murphy.
Couldn’t Bjorn have for once, not fucked over everyone and everything for his stupid manpain?
Yes, I’m mad at Bjorn for this again. It’s not like Alfred will just be like oh that’s cool. It’s not like he doesn’t have enough shit to deal with but no poor ungrateful self-entitled Bjorn fucking Ironside has to always fuck everything up.
He’s my favorite Ragnarsson, but sometimes, even I wonder if he’s Rollo’s, because he could not be Ragnar’s and be that goddamn stupid. Alfred took them in and his macho stupid pride disrespected him. But sure, go pretend you’ve never known love, just because Hirst wants to erase Thorunn, like he did when they killed Siggy for no fucking reason.
And don’t give me any of that stupid oh Ealhswith wasn’t married yet, she was free. It’s not 2019. It’s the 800′s. He could technically have her and Bjorn I think with my Dick Ironside hung for it, which has nothing to do with religion, because Alfred is more than his fucking religion, okay?
I want this baby to be Alfred’s. I do. But at the same time, no consequences makes this stupid. But even as a Bjorn writer, I’m so over his stupid manpain.
Amen! Hirst thinks all women automatically take any penis thrown in their direction. Even when it makes no sense or is of no-benefit to them.
Does he truly want us to believe a woman about to be Queen would risk being ostracized or worse to sleep with a random guy? She could even be executed for Pete’s sakes!
Better yet, bedding ceremonies were not just to ensure consummation but virginity. It was a pretty begin deal. Yet, no consequences or mention of that at all.
I’m tired of every woman being written like an “iron you don’t need to plug” (basically, always hot and turned on). It’s trash.
Like the Forbes article said, “I think I’m tired of how cynical this show has become. More than its aimlessness, it’s the lack of humanity I find so depressing. Nobody cares about anybody else. Mothers kill their sons. Fathers abandon their children. Brothers are always at war with one another. When Bjorn finally comes out with his little love speech, all I can think about is how badly he’s treated all his previous wives, all the children he’s abandoned.”
“I don’t buy it. None of this is really human nature. People back in those times didn’t just neglect and abandon their children willie nillie. People still loved their parents, their children, their family and friends. There wasn’t endless backstabbing and misery. Life was hard and the hardest folk survived, but Vikings has taken malaise to a whole new level. There is nothing hopeful about this show.”
I completely agree with you. There are many women on this show I’ve never liked but I mean, they just completely ignored so many facts with it, not to mention any version that I’ve ever read or seen of Ealhswith, she’s chaste. She’s loyal to Alfred. She is very Godly. If anything, rumors and other facts indicate that Alfred was the one who had a promiscuous youth and even on TLK, he cheats on her for a little while.
My Alfred even dabbles in that a bit, at the start of his marriage. This show literally got sick of fucking all the Viking History up and went after the Anglo Saxon History,..and that’s not even including his whole let’s mix up the Aethelred’s and randomly have Aethelred of Wessex marry someone with the same name, that Aethelred the Unready did.
Bjorn is my favorite of Ragnar’s sons, but he’s arguably the age, that we met Ragnar. He’s got to grow up. Even last season, they introduced the princess, just so he could sleep with her and then she died.
There is no reason for such lazy writing.
@aelfred I totally agree with everything you have said. I don't like people changing history ESPECIALLY when it's done to insert tropes, sexism and dangerous stereotypes.
What Hirst does benefits no one. Not the Vikings lore, not Anglo-Saxon history and definetly not the audience. There are people who actually think this is real history.😒
Hirst also erased the positive aspects of the real King Alfred's mother (Osburh) and replaced her with a caricature called Judith.
