Most animals are slaughtered as babies, at a very small portion of their natural life span, regardless of whether they are raised conventionally or in operations that are labeled “humane”, “sustainable”, “natural”, “free-range”, “cage-free”, “heritage bred”, “grass-fed”, “local” or “organic”
Dairy cows are kept almost continually pregnant. Unwanted male calves (known as 'bobby calves') are either sent to slaughter in their first week of life or sent off to live a short sad life in veal crates to be killed and sold as veal. All just so that their mothers' milk can be harvested for human consumption

If children knew that we kill baby cows so that we can steal milk, they would be truly horrified. If children heard the terrible cries of mothers as their babies are taken from them, they too might cry and wonder why the grown ups had become the bad guys, like those in all the stories they'd read. If children had to see the mental and physical exhaustion and trauma of these mother cows, they would beg their grown ups not to do it anymore. If children were to see the brutal killing in the houses of slaughter that stain our world, they would be traumatised themselves, unable to process the barbaric hell we have created for these animals.
If children knew from the start the true cost of the animal products we make them eat, they would be Vegan from the start. There's a reason we don't show children the truth. There's a reason we don't like to see that truth either. It's time we stop killing and torturing and exploiting innocent animals. Live Vegan and show the truth to as many people as possible.
There will be a day when the sun rises over a Vegan world, a world where animals, such as the beautiful individual you see here, need not fear us anymore, a world where all sentient life is given the respect that is theirs by earthly right. If you want that world too then, no matter what hardships we face in life, no matter the pain and the complexities we face, we are together in this, and we must pursue this world with all that we have so that it happens sooner, and better, than we could imagine.

taken with @surgeactivism at a dairy farm in England - this was one of around 30 to 40 calfs who had all been separated from their mothers and who were all confined to tiny pens, in a, quite literally, freezing cold courtyard.
