Author recommendation: This story reads like a Julia Quinn novel, with the political sensibilities of an eighteenth-century historian—because it is based on all the reading I’ve done to write a dissertation on eighteenth-century literature. Nile, whose story we follow in the first book, is armed with a healthy suspicion of marriage plots after reading Samuel Richardson’s epistolary novels and Mary Wollstonecraft's A Vindication of the Rights of Woman at an impressionable age.
