When I appear on the screen, I’m playing myself.  It’s harder to play yourself.  I pretended to be a certain kind of man on screen, and I became that man in life.  I became me.  But to play yourself — your true self — is the hardest thing in the world to do.  Watch people at a party.  They’re playing themselves like everything — but nine times out of ten the image of themselves they adopt is the wrong one.  Adopt the true image of yourself, acquire a technique to project it, and the public will give you its allegiance. —Cary Grant
