‘so this is love…’ | Cinderella (1950)
Your Highness. If I may, that is, it would give me the greatest pleasure, if you would do me the honor of letting me lead you through this– the first… Dance?
Ella, my darling. I want to tell you a secret. A great secret that will see you through all the trials that life can offer. You must always remember this. Have courage and be kind. You have more kindness in your little finger than most people possess in their whole body. And it has power, more than you know.
I do love a happy ending, don’t you?
“The dress that [costume designer] Sandy Powell created — I mean, I think she’s a genius and I’m grateful for that dress — but it was like torture,” James joked, estimating it took about 45 minutes to get in and out of the 12-layer garment. “It was so tight and delicate… so it did feel quite magical every time I put it on. It did all the work for you.” (x)
We must simply have courage and be kind, mustn’t we?
A dream is a wish your heart makes when you’re fast asleep. In dreams you will lose your heartaches. Whatever you wish for, you keep. Have faith in your dreams, and someday, your rainbow will come smiling through. No matter how your heart is grieving, if you keep on believing, the dream that you wish will come true.
I’m frightened, Mr. Lizard. I’m only a girl, not a princess. And I’m only a lizard, not a footman. Enjoy it while it lasts.
You told me you knew right away when you met Mother.
I am Cinderella. Your Majesty, I’m no princess.
“Creating the wedding dress was a challenge. Rather than try to make something even better than the ball gown, I had to do something completely different and simple. I wanted the whole effect to be ephemeral and fine, so we went with an extreme-lined shape bodice with a long train. Cinderella wins the Prince’s heart through her goodness, so I wanted to show this through her clothes… I wanted her to stay modest and pure even though she was going to be a part of royalty.” – Sandy Powell (x)

Oh, now, just a minute. You must understand, my dear: On the stroke of twelve, the spell will be broken, and everything will be as it was before.
Once upon a time, there was a woman called Ella and a man called Kit who were very much in love. They saw the world not always as it was but perhaps as it could be - with just a little bit of magic… And they taught their children to see the world in this way as well.
