hearing how the doctor sold out the master to death is the best thing that ever happened to me because now every scene i watch where the doctor stares horrified at the master and goes ‘i can help’ is SO MUCH BETTER
the doctor in end of time 1 is like “all that eloquence, but how many people have you killed?” and then in end of time 2 theyre like “i got worse. i got clever. manipulated people into taking their own”
constantly thinking about the fact there was one time RTD had a good take on the Master and then he cut most of it presumably to spite me personally

WILF: Then kill him first. DOCTOR: And that’s how the Master started. It’s not like I’m an innocent. I’ve taken lives. I got worse. I got clever. Manipulated people into taking their own. Sometimes I think a Time Lord lives too long. I can’t. I just can’t.

In this one scene RTD suddenly gets why the Master is evil. It’s not the drums or insanity or anything like that. It’s much simpler. The Master just began justifying their actions as, “I deserve to be able to do this.” (Which is how we all tend to justify doing things we know are wrong.) It comes down to pride and selfishness. And it illustrates the difference between the Master and the Doctor, because the Doctor knows if they start thinking that way they’ll end up on the same road as the Master. It sets up Ten’s moment of bitterness at the end when he has to sacrifice himself for Wilf and complains that it’s not fair and he deserves so much more, but ultimately rejects that path and does the right thing.
