the coatrack thing is still so funny but the ssps are setting such a precedent. at this point im not accepting any future cosmere books that DON'T have some kind of rube goldbergian horrible clown mishap that falls upon hoid. if things keep going the way they are going he's going to fall into a giant vat of custard in stormlight 5 and be unable to get out for the entire mid series time skip

I haven’t even finished The Further Adventuress–I haven’t even finished the first story in it–but already we have had

- semi-gratuitous Storm Warning references

- entirely gratuitous City of Death references

- TARDIS translation circuit lore (new, I think??)

- Eight and Charley being mistaken for a couple

- by a gorilla

- “But I am an aristo in disguise” <3

I love them and I’m very happy and I hope the rest of it lives up to this.

Also I haven’t finished it because I went and played folk music and the last song we played was “The Parting Glass” and I was reminded of how much I want somebody to make an Eight fanvid set to that, if there were, you know, any footage.

Back in the TARDIS the Doctor had assigned them codenames. Ryan isn’t quite sure whether this was because their real names apparently hold great power and can allow others to trace their timelines or simply because the Doctor thinks codenames are cool. He suspects the latter might have a bit more to do with it.

Either way, the whole thing turns out to be a terrible idea because he’s currently floundering — can’t for the life of him remember the stupid one he was assigned. He’s always been bollocks at names.

It was something weird. Space-y. Like … Avalon. Or Avior.

“Av … o … ca … do?” Ryan winces. “Avocado.”

“And you?”

Graham seems to be struggling as well because he gives Ryan a similarly despairing look, stammers for a few moments before finally saying rather lamely, “Pear.”

He puts his head in his hands.

“Well, then. Avocado, Pear. You two will undoubtedly go down in history as Earth’s bravest and most valiant heroes.”

Oh my god.

Ryan turns to Graham, eyes widening in shock.

“No way …” the Doctor says.

Yaz seems similarly dumbstruck. “You have got to be kidding me.”

“Brilliant!”

I’m starting off by saying this: we don’t have historical episodes anymore

Now, you may be saying “but yes we do!! The Doctor goes through history all the time smh” but here’s what I mean,,

There’s no more historical stories, or episodes where the Doctor and Crew get involved in history itself. When he goes through history now, it’s always a monster who’s to blame for a problem that needs to be fixed.

Personally, I want to see more stories like The Aztecs, Marco Polo, Reign of Terror, etc. in New Who because to me at least, Reign of Terror is one of my favorite stories!

The idea of the Doctor and Co getting caught up in the politics of the time they’re visiting is just an idea that isn’t really elaborated on in the newer series

Tl;dr we need more historical stories without monsters and just history
