For a lady of my advancing years, I should really just be sitting, playing the mum in the background with a cardigan and drinking cups of tea, but I’m out there kicking ass. Getting to play this incredible part, The Master, as a woman it’s just a brilliant opportunity to make his life hell and destroy the universe!

So it would kinda go a bit like that, and then I would fling myself on the floor and just go- Well, actually it’d be exactly the same response I had when my agent did call me to tell me that I was playing the Master.  Which is that I flung myself on the floor and just went “What?  What?”  I think I said “Really?” about a hundred times until it sort of sunk in.  It’s still sinking in now. {x}

If nothing else, I’m so proud of Michelle Gomez for doing everything she did to never let us fully believe Missy had changed. She played us. And now we weep. We all appreciate Michelle as an excellent clown but she is also a first-rate actor.

I am writing this because I want the world to appreciate her. Her role in selling us Missy was a real breakthrough for her career. I want people to know that. It had been a longtime before she got recognition for serious acting. And I am getting a bit emotional writing this because she really, really is someone to admire and aspire to be.

Acting careers for women tend to dwindle once you reach a certain age, unless you have a well-known face. Despite this and somehow, she got here. She got here! And I’ll be damned if I do not acknowledge or celebrate that.

Thank you, Michelle! I don’t think I’ll ever be over what Missy did for her friend.

He permeates kindness and compassion, and I think he, for me, is one of the best Doctors we’ve ever had. I believe him. I believe he’d be a Doctor. I believe he is the Doctor. His gravitas is there. And he’s incredibly talented. And I’m certainly going to miss him very much. It’s been such an honour to be his Master - and I wouldn’t want to be anybody else’s. In terms of his legacy, it’s about being kind. That would be the word that sums up Peter Capaldi for me: kindness. And I think we could do with a lot more of that in the world today, don’t you?
