Before, autumn for Martin meant harsh rains, slippery roads and worry whether his van will pass the MOT this year again.
Now though. Now it’s all a bit of a wonder really because since Douglas, autumn for Martin became so much more. Now there are amiable walks along the river or through the park while holding hands, there are enjoyable flights over amber trees and orange fields and there are weekend drives and stay overs and floating leaves and Douglas’ warmth around him.
There is the scent of pumpkin cupcakes in their kitchen (cupcakes they made together while endangering the icing of premature consumption) and there are unworried lazy morning snuggles with spicy tea and forgotten books.
Now, autumn means Douglas smiling fondly at him in the golden afternoon sun, the sky god happy and loving as well as so, so beloved in return.
