Ahem. Yeah... The likeness in uncanny!
Hey there to all of my lovely followers. I don’t often let things get to me but i’m pissed off and venting.
I’ve just posted a copy of my letter over on Twitter but I rarely use the site so don’t have many followers to help circulate it. If any of you could also circulate it there, who knows? Our frustrations might start to get taken seriously by people who can actually influence the owners of this site.
Look, i’m not stupid. I know it’s probably a long shot but as I said earlier, i’m not going without a fight. I’ve spent years curating this blog, making edits and meeting new people. I don’t want to lose that. The fact that Tumblr keeps muting blogs and isn’t even showing us flagged content any longer seems to be a cynical ploy, but in actuality is probably because - as with everything else - they unexpected the reaction to their guideline changes.
So, if you *do* get to see this post and have twitter, please help us get this out to more people. Much love <3
URGENT: Changes to YOUR Tumblr experience
So, you may or may not have heard that a few days ago Tumblr decided to start allowing Ads on ALL blogs.
Yes, you read that right.
On YOUR blog, without YOUR express permission. They say that it will be beneficial for bloggers, allowing them to earn revenue on their blogs. Now that’s all well and good if you are using your blog for a professional reason.
If however (like the vast majority of bloggers on Tumblr) you are simply using your blog to post pretty pictures, fangirl, or read smutty fanfics *coughs* you probably don’t want your followers to be bombarded with unsolicited ads when they check out your blog.
So what can you do?
Well, thankfully it IS pretty simple to opt out of the ads. However, that’s the important thing to note, Tumblr’s default is to allow ‘On-Blog Advertising’ SO YOU HAVE TO OPT OUT.
TO OPT OUT:
Go to settings.
Scroll down past ask and submit settings.
Opt out of ‘On-Blog Advertising’ by flicking the slider thingymebob from blue to grey (i’m sure there’s a technical term for that but idk!)
Job done. (Be aware that if you have multiple side blogs you will have to opt out of each one individually)
Please, spread this far and wide so that you and your followers can have the best possible Tumblr experience without pesky unsolicited ads.
