In which Tom accidentally autographs his own gift, and then apologizes for autographing his own gift

‘In the script, I remember, it was a short paragraph that said something like “Some neighbouring diners are disgruntled by the activity, Pine settles their nerves with charm. Roper notices and smiles admiringly.” 

I don’t know if John Le Carré had read that paragraph in the screenplay… So he took direction, which was that this whole scene in front of him was appalling and disturbing. And, when I approached the table to say: “I’m terribly sorry about all the commotion, is there anything I can do?” ’
