The reason the inquisition mage companions are grating is because in a universe full of sorcerers and the occasional warlock, they broke continuity by giving us three wizards. But the inquisitor is not a wizard. They're just stuck with these three private school kids who assume you know nothing about magic because you didn't buy professor Shitbottom Scree Octavians guide to magic your freshman year or whatever. Solas is the worst of these because he is secretly Shitbottom Scree but he can't tell you. Vivienne doesn't actually do much magic stuff she's just the most Private School. Dorian is the most palatable bc he's just a little weirdo at his core.

If Dorian spent some time with the da2 magic crew I think they would have invented a hot air balloon in a single afternoon.
