Decisions, decisions...?
I had my last day at the old gym on Tuesday and I couldn’t be happier about that. But currently, I am between gyms and I am not happy about that at all. I don’t have access to weights, no kickboxing or any classes. For fitness, I’ve got my bodyweight and the open road. That might be great for a lot of people but it doesn’t work for me. I need weights and some stuff to punch, seriously.
I’ve narrowed it down to two choices:
- Los Campeones, which is a powerlifting and bodybuilding gym. Mostly weights, some cardio equipment, and some optional boxing classes if you want to shell out a little extra. Total yearly cost: $600.
- The Cellar, which is a fighting gym. They offer unlimited kickboxing, BJJ, Muay Thai, traditional boxing, and MMA fundamentals. They also have free weights - nothing fancy, but basic is all I want for powerlifting. Total yearly cost: $1650. Ouch. :(
I CAN afford Los Campeones but it’s not really what I want. I WANT to train at the Cellar - for serious personal, mental, physical health reasons - but I definitely can’t afford it without help. I am hesitant to ask for help and I wouldn't know where to start anyways.
Like I know it's stupid to stress this much over joining a gym, but it's really important thing for me to end up in a place that I know will be healthy for me, and that allows me to do things I love. I can't go back to the same old shit. Thoughts, anyone?
Some words to live by.
Sorry I've been a little quiet on the blog front lately guys, I'm in the middle of apartment hunting and also delayed depression. No sugarcoating this one - I'm in a major slump right now. I'm eating like shit and using apartment hunting/back injury recuperation to ignore the gym and general health responsibilities. But there's never been a time where I haven't pulled myself back out, so, I appreciate y'all bearing with me. I'll be back around in a few days at the latest.

Just got back from a couple days in NYC! <3 It was a trip not to be forgotten and I'm still trying to get my head around how amazing it turned out. Two days spent in the greatest city on Earth, with one of my favorite people. Ate bagels and pizza and fucking fancy Italian food. Walked around Times Square and Central Park and Chinatown and rode the subway all over and fucked it up a couple times. Saw my long-time favorite band Coheed and Cambria for the 47th time - at MOTHERFUCKING RADIO CITY MUSIC HALL holy shit. Ran into countless friendly fan faces in the crowd and reconnected with the crew at the afterparty and took goofy pictures in the Rockettes' dressing rooms. Exhausted, but it was magic.
I even did okay on the healthy front. Of course I didn't bother tracking food, but we stayed active with all the walking, got plenty of protein and veggies, and kept the pizza/bagel/Italian stuff at a manageable level. Fitbit has my activity level at tens of thousands of steps per day, 10+ miles walked and 20+ flights of stairs etc. My post-trip weight this morning was even under 160, which is rare because I tend to hoard water like a beast. "Recovery" workout was even pretty good. Everything is pretty good. I'm happy. :D
