You've probably heard that the Velociraptors in Jurassic Park were larger than life. By how much? Here's an adult Velociraptor at the wonderful Dinosaur Journey museum in Fruita, CO. There's a 6 foot paleo-artist next to him for scale. Wild, right? Don't let the size fool you though; these critters were ferocious.
How much bigger is Utahraptor than Velociraptor?
Check out these reconstructed skulls perched one on top of the other! Utahraptor Project had these on their table today at DinoFest in SLC.

Studying Iguanodon to make a prop image for my upcoming show. It’s an animal I’ve always taken for granted, but wow it’s a cool one. The scientific history around it is fascinating, and the form has a really cool character to it.
BREAKING DINOSAUR NEWS—
Fellow dino nerds, lend me your cartilaginous auditory structures! No one warned me this morning, so I’ma warn you— this is discovery is hyperventilating level stuff. Seriously, have a paper bag ready— Paleontologists have just announced that a complete section of a small dinosaur’s tail has been found intact in amber, including bone, feathers, and other tissues! Check out the full scientific paper at the following link: http://www.cell.com/current-biology/pdf/S0960-9822(16)31193-9.pdf *Scale bar in photo 5mm

Today’s Doodle: Coelophysis bauri
For @thenuggetwhocouldfly, thanks for the suggestion! Coelophysis, a theropod dinosaur from the Late Triassic, was a pint-sized harbinger of things to come. If this guy were to chase your Jeep, “objects in mirror” would be … close or not, he’d be about the size of a large dog nipping at your tires. However, some gargantuan megamonsters would one day evolve from Triassic rim-nippers not unlike this one.

Hi guys! I apologize that posts have been slow lately; I've been taking care of some work/continued education stuff. It’s been a great growing experience, but tough to juggle everything lol. Onward and upward!

A TED Talk featuring some of my work
Hi all! A few months ago I did a painting of an animal called Oryctodromeus for my friend MSU Paleontologist L.J. Krumenacker. At a recent TEDx event in Idaho Falls, he spoke about his experience finding some of the first known dinosaur fossils in Idaho, giving us rare glimpses into the ecosystems of the Mesozoic in the gem state. He offers some great tips on fossil hunting, and some rather profound thoughts as well.
Happy #FossilFriday!
