Cathal first noticed him taking pictures of him after he scored in an alleyway. There was something in the back of his mind that was screaming at him when he first saw the broad shoulders, blond hair, and, when he lowered the camera, blue eyes. He was familiar. Cathal learned his name was Damien (it didn’t fit him, it should have been something more regal) and he was from America. Damien studied Cathal for a moment and asked if he could follow him for the day and take pictures of him. He had no reason to say no, so he took him to see where he lived (his car), the pool he sneaks into, and the cliffs where he often visits. He even allowed Damien to capture the moments of him shooting up to keep him going.
Cathal, somehow able to smile despite his situation (homeless for as long as he could remember, always on the move), was able to get Damien to open up. About the feeling of something dark following him, as if something greater was pressing about his shoulders. All things Cathal could related to.
After confessing, Damien shook his head and said, “I haven’t really told anyone about that, but…There’s something about you, Cathal. Can’t quite put my finger on it.”
