A new year, new dates for the Brontoscoptic calendar! This year is a bit odd for the translation, the new moon in cancer was June 21st—meaning the majority of the “June” month is in July. The calendar picks back up on the next new moon, which is August 4th. Therefore the brontoscoptic month of July is in August. Strange for us to think of, but lunar calendars do not always translate easily into Gregorian.

Supposing that publicly, in all augural teaching, the ancients assumed the moon to be a reference point (for under this heading they classified both thunder and lightning signs), one likewise may correctly select the phase of the moon as a factor for reckoning, so that, beginning with Cancer, we shall make observations of thunder day by day, beginning with the first day of the lunar month, and following lunar months. As per the request of one of my gods, I will be offering divination readings to the public for free or for barter. Feel free to request via ask!

Current reading status: OPEN

Here are the types of things I would be willing to receive via barter:

Divination readings of similar size/effort
Prayers or Hymns written for specific epithets of gods I worship (feel free to ask/DM to inquire further!)
Small acts of magic (for good luck, health, abundance, etc., again feel free to ask if you'd like to do something more specific!)

Guidelines:

I do these readings on my own time. I work a full-time job on top of other personal and professional commitments, so please be patient with me. Readings may take several days for me to complete, depending on my energy levels and how many requests I currently have.
I will not perform any readings on medical matters, legal matters, past lives, or on/about non-consenting third parties. Any such requests will be deleted.
If you ask for a deity reading from/about a god which I know little about, I reserve the right to deny the request. I will do messages and confirmations, but not identifications.
If you do not specify what you'd like a reading on, you will receive a general reading.
Please specify what tool(s) you'd prefer me to use for your reading. If you do not specify, I will likely default to my RWS tarot deck.
If sending an ask off anon, please specify if you'd like to keep the reading private. Readings will be posted publicly unless requested otherwise.

ACCREDITED TO TAGES, the brontoscopic calendar—a divinatory almanac of sorts—only survives within a Roman Byzantine translation of a Latin edition of an Etruscan calendar, said to have been recorded by Johannes Lydus (“John the Lydian”) in De ostentis (“On Portents”) from Justinian Constantinople. Etruria had many almamacs created by Rasenna’s people across its lifetime—but only one survives in full, which is this calendar.

The brontoscoptic calendar begins upon the first full moon in Cancer, which in 2023 is July 3rd/July 4th. Please note that the Etruscan day begins at noon, so ensure when using this that you keep it in mind—which I have indicated at the 12:00 mention of each day. For example, if it thundered on July 5th at 09:00, the message would be the one given on the fourth as the Etruscan day has not yet changed.

To use this calendar, if it thunders look for the day indicated and check the time of the event to ensure it is the proper day. Then look at the prediction and interpret from there. You may also check the 16 divisions of heaven to see which aiser sent the omen you have received. The calendar is very direct in what can happen, but with all divination, there is always more that could be understood and therefore avoided—or followed if favourable.

This year’s calendar is cut off as next year the full moon in Cancer is June 21st.
