A collection of theories, screenshots, music, and fan art of Steven Universe. All Steven Universe all the time.

Consider this, if you will.  Not the usual Steven Universe musical concept.  But instead, a sort of creepy tableau of all Homeworld Gems.  Using this music: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CsiUQV7DyE8  At first everyone is in shadow.  But at 0:26 Lapis steps forth and starts singing.  Then Peridot joins her at 0:40.  Jasper at 1:29.  Then gradually all the other Homeworld Gems we’ve seen, then the HW Pearls and finally their Diamonds ,and at the very last the giant white statue that is probably White Diamond from The Trial.

That recently submitted theory about gem fusion

I feel like the raw power of a gem is able to be irrelevant, as a space-faring empire would be more focused on naval power. The threat was not fusion, but understanding. Homogeneous fusion is like “you but bigger,” while heterogeneous fusion results in not just a new powerful form, but a chance to feel a deep emotional connection. This kind of connection was dangerous because it would make gems realize they could unite, that they were not isolated. The diamonds keep gems alone and groups homogeneous to prevent the diffusion of ideas and to keep them in a specific mindset. TL;DR, fusion was not the danger, change was. Diamonds need gems to feel isolated.

Long winded, but stay with me...

I have a theory…
The diamonds knew about different gems fusing, and how their individual (gems’) differences made the fusion ultimately stronger.
They feared that if enough weaker/different gems fused, that they’d be overpowered if it came down to the multitude of different gems fusing against their potential 4 way fusion. They might have said that different types of gems fusing was an abomination as a form of control.
I also think that’s why they created the cluster. A number of broken (no pun intended) psyches to eventually form and destroy the planet containing the only gem to figure it out.
Rose Quartz found out, and that’s why she said Garnet was “the answer” when she asked Rose what she was upon their first meeting.
And, other theories suggest that Rose, Garnet, Amethyst, and Pearl fused in order to shatter Pink Diamond. 5 gems potentially fused to shatter just one diamond. How terrified would they be of 50, or 100 gems?
This might be why they buried The Cluster in the core. For a bit of irony. Yes, enough individual gems might shatter them, but shattered individuals, forced to form, would be the Earth’s demise.
