Interviewer: Meagan Tracey says ‘can I apologise if I overwhelmed you with my massive tattoo of you last night? I was a bit enthusiastic.’ Conchita: No. Listen, the tattoo is amazing. It’s just, you know it’s a little weird to see your own face in somebody else’s skin. But I think you really did it in a very cool way, so. Because it gets a little, you know, fun twist and I- you know I love when you guys are creative. I think it’s great.

Please admire this gif (made by the supremely talented @tisziny, the Courtney to my Conchita) of Conchita Wurst’s face literally lighting up over my tattoo. This has to be one of the best moments of my life and it makes the 8&1/2 hours of tattooing pain (and all the itching and irritation of aftercare) completely worth it. Conchita has this effect on my face all the time, so it was really fabulous to return the favour.

no.9 - tell me, who could love you more?

It took two sessions with a combined total of over eight hours of tattooing to get my Conchita Wurst portrait complete. Reading her book was the only thing that got me through all of the pain and now I couldn’t be happier with the end result. The year Conchita won Eurovision is the year drag took over and changed my life. As a symbol of individuality, tolerance and hope, Conchita helped me become a phoenix rising from my old, isolated persona. I can’t wait to show this to her when I’m in the front row of her Sydney Opera House show tomorrow night. Happy Mardi Gras!
