ok last thing. but what people fundamentally need to get through their heads is the significance of gaza fundraisers not being the same as like mutual aid when you're helping someone get groceries, because it is a genocide. there is insane deliberate scarcity and prices are unmanageable, because there is nowhere nearly enough for everyone, so only people who can pay can eat. and what positioning individual fundraisers as the only course of action does is quite simply give a tiny percentage of random people whose fundraisers take off the ability to pay those prices while thousands of others can't. and every one of those thousands of people without a fundraiser is suffering through the same inconceivably horrific reality. it is giving a few completely desperate people out of hundreds of thousands a slightly more favorable position in a horrific war economy of imposed scarcity. and what grassroots community kitchens do is try to mitigate in some small way that inconceivable hierarchy of who can pay and who can't, by stretching ingredients as far as they can last to cook meals at large scale and give them out at no cost. and obviously people are still going to send money to their friends and families because this is hell what else are we supposed to do but please just think about that before promoting endless individual fundraisers as somehow the most ethical way to help

Operation Olive Branch has a spreadsheet dedicated to mutual aid, local distro, community kitchens, etc. in Gaza.

This is a good place to start if seeking to donate to a community resilience action. Just contact the group(s) directly to make sure they are still active. Life in Gaza and Palestine is full of uncertainty.

This is excellent. Donate and share yall.

I knew we were going to start seeing media companies doing a "readjustment" - which really just means cancelling and burying any piece of media with LGBTQ and diverse characters or stories (especially companies who have been at least surface level progressive) - in the next 4 years, but I didn't think it would happen almost immediately.

I don't care if it's the best TV show of all time. I cannot be tricked into consuming a cartoon about league of legends.

It’s loosely inspired by league of legends.

Imagine Spiderverse style animation with a plot about class differences, civil war, when it’s okay to abandon morals for the greater good, and how much evil someone can do before they’re not family anymore. Then throw in two gay situationships and the greatest soundtrack you’ve ever heard.

If that’s not your thing, that’s cool. Don’t disregard it just cause it’s league of legends tho.

YOU CANNOT TRICK ME

It's one of the best things Netflix has ever come out with watch the damn thing. If you want a breakdown of why it's so good (spoilers but tbh sometimes I need to know what a thing is about before I watch it) watch this from OSP. Also the animation is absolutely fucking *gorgeous* I love it so so so much. Watch the damn thing.

I'm still working on a row, but I thought I'd share the honeycomb since I hadn't before. Each motif is a part of my clan. Everything means something. Except the 6- stand braid. I just really liked it. So, I guess it does mean something in its own way. This is a blanket for my grandchild. They are still an infant, so it might be a while before it's actively used.

It's also the first project I've exclusively knit continental. I was taught the English way, so I've struggled a bit, but it's better. I've frogged and restarted 3 times. I refuse to do so again.

I'm working through the MCU + shows while knitting this, and I'm on season 1 of Luke Cage. I love it.

“We are here, and this is now.” Constable Visit, a strict believer in the Omnian religion, occasionally quoted that from their holy book. Vimes understood it to mean, in less exalted copper speak, that you have to do the job that is in front of you.

Hi All,

In an effort to manage the horrors that are within my power to manage, I have organized a Gofundme to raise funds for a lightweight wheelchair!

For those of you who don't know, I have battled chronic pain and fatigue for years; my symptoms have mostly been well-managed, but in the past ~6-8 months, I've been experiencing more frequent flares and more intense symptoms. This has affected my mobility quite a bit, and limited what activity I can comfortably tolerate. I am actively working with my PCP to determine a diagnosis (currently testing for Lyme; thankfully she does not suspect RA), but regardless of what we find out, I still live with near-constant pain and fatigue. My birthday and the holidays are fast approaching, and if anyone considers donating, it would make my year! Sharing helps too! Love you all, despite the horrors. 🦄💜

Visit the Gofundme here!

Ok, I'm active in a climate change group and this is not helpful.

There is no link in the original tweet. No source. I tried to track down the "unavoidable" warming info and could not find it.

Shit like this creates despair. We need to act, and by telling people we're already doomed, they don't act.

Ben is not a scientist. He's a lit instructor. He also has, in the past, championed science that is not sound.

There is hope. We can beat this.

I've decided I'm not done.

The reality of climate change is that we don't know what will happen, so we need to do all we can to stop it. Every tenth of a degree matters.

We will lose some things, yes, but be wary of anyone telling you something is "unavoidable." That is likely someone selling you the comfort of certainty (even if it's a negative outcome) when there is none.

Read some actual scientists responding to various climate claims here (and these were before the passage of the IRA and current reports about emissions/rise of solar):

Again, this is not to say everything will be fine. I mean to say that the future is unknown which is why we need to keep working on the problem. Do not let people tell you that we are doomed because, as someone involved in climate activism, doom is not a certainty and there is so much we can still do. Doomers are more of a threat than deniers at this point - don't let them hijack the narrarive.

it's true. as someone who is neck deep in climate change information for a living, IT IS NOT HOPELESS. nor will it ever truly be. a lot of changes are possible. and some places in the world are way ahead of the u.s.a and canada in making these changes.

what you do really does matter. you're not the only one in the world making changes. and who you vote for also really does matter (remember to vote on the local level!)

but it bares repeating: it is far from hopeless. it's an uphill battle, for sure—especially with the most economically and militarily powerful nation in the world installing a science-denying grifter as political leader—but forward movement on this is not only possible but actively happening right now.
