See that last tie-in you mention fascinates me so much! The Thorntons ARE notoriously wealthy and influential in their society. As of the time of GTH they still arrange their marriages for power and influence, still operate an infamous family business out of greed and inherited duty. They share a lot of similarities with the royals already. Who knows if HeR was actually that clever lol, but man, it's absolutely brilliant if intentional!

thank you for the ask :) I used to be such a Harper stan in high school myself, but then I switched to the dark side obviously
When she was a kid/early teen, Harper had the edgiest sense of humor, but she was so so so goodhearted. Like she'd make super dark jokes or playfully roast the hell out of others, but mostly everyone knew it was all in good fun, and she usually dodged getting in trouble for it. Definitely not always, though.
After everything went wrong, she really leaned into this dark sense of humor to cope, and that's where the persona she takes on comes from, since we know she's capable of being totally rational and deep and warmhearted.

Harper Headcanon-
When Harper disappeared for such a long time, she moved to another state, made up a name and backstory, and worked at a local bookstore. She totally lost herself in the books and tried to lose herself in her new identity, but she kept imagining her real backstory as having as neat a resolution as in stories, kept trying to find ways where everything would get fixed, somehow, in her head. And this hope was what motivated her to eventually return.
But of course, it didn't end up as she imagined.
🪦- Wade Headcanon
You in particular absolutely know why I would have this headcanon for the Youngest Male Cousin, but Wade was a totally different guy when he was a really little kid. He was just the biggest character, totally uninhibited, completely hilarious, and more than a little attention-seeking. That totally wore off as he got older, of course, and part of this was his father's belief in the importance of just shutting up and listening. He gets really embarrassed whenever anyone mentions what he was like as a kid, even though everyone brings these memories up with nothing but fondness.

Clara and Harper snuck out alllll the time as teenagers to go to parties and drink underage, and although Charlotte usually didn't parktake, she clocked it every single time. She was never a snitch, though, and she always kept an eye on the clock to make sure they made it home safely. A couple of times, she joined in (the first time, Clara and Harper thought for sure she was about to bust them) and of course that was when they had the most fun. Even though she was really popular, Charlotte herself was super straight-laced, so this was a treat.

This one might be kind of basic, but Charlotte is obviously remembered by the Thorntons as totally saintific, the best of all of them, and generally too good for this world. I think this is a combination of just remembering the good after someone is gone and Charlotte intentionally putting her best self forward every. minute. of every. day. She was a good person, of course, a great person. But still a person, someone who was flawed in her own way and thrown into a very high-stress position at a young age. Toward the end of her life especially, I imagine she struggled with paranoia as well as feeling alone and generally shallow, despite everyone else thinking the opposite of her.

OH MY GOD THANK YOU ily cambria GOD i wish we knew more concrete stuff about her childhood so that there was more to discuss. like surely there was some real and not just perceived form of alienation between Clara herself and her cousins' family when she was taken to live there, but we don't get any evidence of it in the game which I think is just tragic. Like it doesn't seem like something Clara would ever mention organically because of her desire to appear strong, Harper probably wouldn't mention it because she might have been too young or naive to pick up on it, and Wade probably never knew that such tensions even existed.
Like by all accounts Roger and Marie were great people and parents, but given their demanding jobs, the fact that they already had two children, and the fact that they presumably didn't have much info on grief and trauma and how to guide children through it, it's very possible they were just never there for Clara in the same way they were there for their own kids. I mentioned in another post that because grief in children surrounding parental loss often comes with a lot of resentment, it's possible that young Clara pushed herself away from her new family, and they just didn't know how to respond to that, didn't know how normal it was, and thus never treated her as one of them. I want to know so badly what they did, no matter how well-intentioned, that would leave Clara feeling like she'd ever be pushed out of the family after being taken in by them as an actual child and living with them for 8+ years. That would be a seriously major insult after being brought up with them!!!
Or was it because of the possible incest thing? Lately I'm back to thinking that that may have actually been intentional from the writers!
Idk this story is just sooo complex and rich and I'm honestly both glad it exists in a Nancy Drew game so that the dark parts can be understated and we can imagine our own backstories and also sad that it has to be so limited because I would also read a full novel or watch a whole Netflix original series about the Thorntons of Blackrock.
I also wish we got more info about the eventual reconciliation of the Thornton family. To what level was Clara a part of that? If she wasn't, and all her lifelong fears were confirmed at the end of the game, that would be really tragic. It would make sense, since her manipulation of Harper and Wade may have left their relationships far beyond repair, but god wouldn't that be a sad corruption story? And did Clara go to jail for what happened in 1989? (I kind of doubt it, given her socioeconomic status, the fact that the fire was so many years ago and may have been entirely accidental, etc., but who knows.)
But then, by the end of the game, Jessalyn is at the core of the family, not Clara or Harper or Wade, and she seems to have a lot of love and forgiveness for her mother. And maybe Clara could start to become a new person now that she's not being burdened by this horrible secret and if she sees that she will always have at least some of her family! I love a story whose theme is that it's never too late to change, and that shows that change comes because of love and support!
Do they all do holidays together? Does Jessalyn ever drag them all on tropical family vacations, even though Harper doesn't really like her cousins, Wade sees maybe an hour of sunlight per year, and Clara hasn't had fun in twenty years?? Do Harper and Clara try to kill each other with carving knives on Thanksgiving? I just need so much more on this deeply fucked up but also very funny family.

OKAY I know you're asking because of the Blanket Phantom of '23, but the answer is downright absurd. There are six on my bed right now, one on the chair I'm sitting on, one on the chair at my desk, two on the couch upstairs, and one on the couch in the basement. That's eleven blankets. And that's not counting the blankets I put in the dog's beds.
