Lots of people in the comments claiming that Democrats weren’t going to do these things anyway, as if those aren’t the major goals of the party, and their most major recent achievements.
I’ve gotta say, if you believe that, and your grasp of the past 20 years of history is that weak, then maybe don’t speak in public until you brush up a bit.
ACA has been expanded in the past four years, lots more people are eligible now that weren’t; Trump is still promising to end it, to be replaced by his “concepts of a plan.” Student loan forgiveness has been a challenge but it has been moving ahead and Biden has been getting it done; he’s picked the Bush-era program back up that Trump dropped. Trump has even promised to dismantle the Department of Education, for crying out loud.
I am so fucking sick of Dems being blamed for things the Republicans have destroyed simply because we haven’t given them the votes to stop them.
And yes, people will die. Needless thousands of additional Americans died in Trump’s first term because of his bungling the pandemic response (dismantling the pandemic response agency, crippling the CDC, hoarding respirators so they’d kill more blue-staters, sending the early testing machines to Russia, etc) and more have died since due to his Supreme Court picks’ decision to not value mothers’ lives. More will die if the ACA is ended and the social net is cut.
But, as Adam Serwer so correctly pointed out years ago, the cruelty is the point. If you still can’t see that, and if you still think the parties are the same, I don’t have much hope for you.
