Litten becomes Fire/Dark and here’s why

So I’m sure 99% of everyone who hates this thing thinks it will be Fire/Fighting just because it’s clearly a wrestler. While it IS a wrestler, it’s based on a very specific wrestler:

Looks familiar, huh?

Anyone familiar with Tiger Mask might notice how I used an image of Black Tiger, Tiger Mask’s nemesis. Let’s go back to the “HEEL” part mentioned above. First, what is a heel?

So basically, they’re villains in wrestling. Why do I think Litten is a heel and not a face? Check out the concept art:

He’s spitting and hitting Pikachu with a table.

That’s not very sportsmanlike, is it? It’s exactly what a heel would do.

So since heels are evil, and faces are heroes, this fits the Dark typing perfectly. In Japan, Fighting type is equal to “Hero Type”, and Dark type is directly translated as “Evil type”. Think about Dark type moves: they’re all dirty and underhanded in nature.

In closing, he’s not only NOT Fire/Fighting, he’s a direct opposition to Fire/Fighting. GameFreak gave us a starter who combats this typing because they know we dislike it. Instead of giving us a boring quadropedal tiger with zero deeper design or cultural significance, they gave us a story and a tribute to real life and fictional characters all wrapped up in a nod to our disdain for the idea of ANOTHER Fire/Fighting type. Which is, to say, FAR more interesting than “just a big cat on fire”.

But that’s just my opinion. But now you now why it is designed the way it is.

Hmmmmmm

This analysis was so accurate that Incineroar is literally classified as the “Heel Pokemon”

There’s also the wonderful tidbit that it hates bullying and really adores children, so not only is it a heel, it’s a jerk with a heart of gold.  I’ve fallen in love with this cat

Funnily enough, I think there’s even more hidden in this. They made the final evolution into Fire/Dark for the Heel reference, but if it’s not totally obvious, this character is made specifically to LOOK LIKE THE FIRE/FIGHTING TYPES WE’VE GROWN TO DETEST. In other words… Litten’s final evo is doing exactly what a Wrestling Heel is supposed to do: draw hate from the audience. This is a reference that works on so many levels that I’m… actually legitimately beginning to reconsider my disliking of this cat.

Only thing I’d point out is that “Hero type” is not really a thing, as “Fighting type” is a very literal translation from the japanese かくとうタイプ. However, this is absolutely the sort of relationship it’s meant to have with Dark type, so that’s just a minor nitpick.

ジュナイパー, the “arrow-quill” Pokemon, is 5′3″ and weighs 80.7 lbs. “Decidueye” is inspired by deciduous + duel + deadeye. This Pokemon is able to move about while completely masking its presence. Once an opponent loses sight of it, Decidueye seizes the chance to attack. In a tenth of a second, Decidueye plucks an arrow quill from within its wing and sends its hurtling. Decidueye acts very cool, but it can become terribly flustered in unexpected situations. Its signature move is Spirit Shackle, a Ghost-type attack that only it can learn. A foe hit with this will become unable to flee from battle. ガオガエン, the “heel” Pokemon, is 5′11″ and weighs 183 lbs. “Incineroar” is incinerate + roar. As its fighting spirit increases, the flames it produces burst from its navel. The flames resemble a championship belt, which it uses it unleashes moves. Incineroar shows no concern for foes in the heat of battle and sometimes even launches attacks that strike the opposing trainer! As a result, many tend to dislike this Pokemon and keep it at a distance. If a crowd watching it is pumped, its fighting spirit will burn brighter, but a lackluster one can make it lose focus. Its signature attack is Darkest Lariat, allowing it to deal damage while ignoring the effects of status changes that the opponent might otherwise be affected by. アシレーヌ, the “soloist” Pokemon, is 5′11″ and weighs 97 lbs. “Primarina” may be a combination of prima donna + marina + ballerina. As it dances, Primarina releases balloons of water into the area around, moving them using the sound waves from its voice. The sight of moonlight reflecting off its glittering balloons creates a magical scene. Since Primarina controls its balloons using its voice, any injury to its throat can become a grave problem. Its greatest enemies are arid environments and the overuse of its voice during back-to-back battles. Sparkling Aria is its special move that heals the burns of any target it strikes.

Final Evolutions, by All.

Can people stop being rude to/about certain Pokemon? I mean, man, I new the leaked Litten final evo would get some negative opinions but people seem to be especially rude about it. Sorry for kinda putting my opinion out there, but when you’ve gone through the main Pokemon Sun and Moon tag and a lot of the stuff is making fun/rude comments of fine designs, it really gets on my nerves.

Look, I’m not saying the design is perfect and I can see where people get genuinely upset, but at this point it seems very undeserving and hypocritical all the hate it’s getting, especially after the initial reaction to Popplio all went down.

Sorry for the kinda rant! I’me just very passionate about my little fire baby and the Pokemon games in general, so it just breaks my heart when people seem kind of entitled about designs of Pokemon that Nintendo/Game Freak spent so much time on?  And overall I just don’t like seeing that kind and that much negativity in the tags?

idk, again, sorry for the rant, but I hope you can at least enjoy this little comic!
