She's obviously kidding, she follows that by saying this:
It's very Viv tbh 😂
you heard it here first folks: it's football || Welcome Tobin Heath!
Love the parallels!
TOBIN HEATH sitting on the bench during Manchester United vs Reading
Pinoe is all of us. 🤣🤣🤣🥰🥰🥰🤩🤩🤩
Okay that was a little insane 😱
i kind of love this
the heath write up on the man united website says ''subject to work permit'' which is interesting. maybe means they wont be available straight away?
Looks like they wont no. Dont know how effectively they'll be able to fast track this and doesnt give much of a clue as to whether they're even in England yet, but looks like it's going to take a while. At least people can rest assured that it's until the end of the season so there will still be a lot of games for them to be featured in!!
The 32-year-old has spent the past seven seasons with National Women’s Soccer League side, Portland Thorns.
Having spent the majority of her playing career in America, she also had two spells in Europe with Paris Saint-Germain in 2013 and 2014.
Heath is an experienced international player and has been capped by the USA national team 168 times. Her many honours with USA include two World Cups and two Olympic Gold medals.
Heath was also shortlisted for the 2019 Women’s Ballon D’or.
Tobin Heath said: “Manchester United is an exceptional club and I’m thrilled to be joining them. I’m looking forward to the challenge of competing in England, playing with and against some of the best players in the world. I have big ambitions for this season and can’t wait to get on the pitch with my new team and start this next chapter.”
Casey Stoney said: “We are all excited to have Tobin join the club; she is an outstanding player who brings a wealth of experience to the squad. She is extremely skilful and possesses so much quality on the ball; her speed and intelligence in one vs one situations will be a real asset that will push the team forward this season, and I can’t wait to see her make her mark on the league. “Tobin’s many accolades and trophies also show that she is a proven winner and I’m looking forward to seeing her have a real impact in the squad.”
I can see it from their point of you That this is the best case scenario for them this year they wasnt going to play in America Man United have offered them to play together something that will probably never happen again to be together and to get some minutes in a team that is young and hungry so you can’t fault them for doing that Like it’s the best opportunity for them and they’re going to take it because I’m not getting any younger it’s a different league and a new experience
It's definitely not something to fault them for. Man United, even if they're not playing in the CL yet, are a fantastic team with a mixture of upcoming youth and established experience. Of course there's the big advantage of them getting the opportunity to play together. But then every other factor will be so enriching from getting competitive minutes in after not playing for club for a year to having a great coach and access to top facilities (if not grounds...) and to experiencing a new league where they wont immediately be establishing their dominance nor fitting into the style of play. It's a great opportunity for anyone to get to play at united tbh
all these NWSL players going to England, they're playing in the champions league this year? or is it something else? I'm know absolutely nothing about WSL, guess I gotta learn now
okay so let’s do a little champions league recap! So basically the UEFA Women’s Champions League (UWCL) has a deceiving name since it’s not a league but rather a tournament which the best teams of each country’s league play in every year. So basically you have the Women’s Super League (WSL) in England as your usual league, quite similar to the NWSL, and then the top 2 teams from this - and three starting next year - qualify to play in the Champions League. This for now is a knockout tournament which all European leagues send teams to participate in in rounds spread out throughout the year to compete for being crowned the best team in Europe. If you’re confused by my explanation or just want to know more then I recommend browsing through the official site for more details.
Now for as to who is playing in it this year. Basically the 2019/20 UWCL was not able to finish because of, you guessed it, corona. It was down to the quarterfinals so only 8 teams left but it had to be postponed. It is these last few matches of last season’s tournament that are about to be played starting Friday. The teams that are left are FC Barcelona, Atletico de Madrid (both Spanish and qualified last year as runner up and league winner in 2018/19 respectively), VFL Wolfsburg, FC Bayern Munich (German and again league winner and runner up of the 2018/19 season), Lyon, PSG (French and same here) and Arsenal (English team who was the league winner in that season). All other teams that participated - 62 in total when counting preliminary rounds - have been knocked out by this point. These quarterfinals, semifinals and finals will be played out over a span of 10 days over the coming 2 weeks. So far, the only previous NWSL player who has signed for one of these clubs already and is hence eligible to play is Ellie Carpenter for Lyon but she didn’t even stick around for the Challenge Cup.
All other players, namely uswnt ones, have so far signed for clubs that are not in the rounds that remain of last year’s Champions League but will be in the one for this upcoming 2020/21 season. After having placed second in last season’s WSL, Man City have qualified for the UWCL so both Lavelle and Mewis will be able to play here. Kopparbergs/Göteborg FC also came in second in the 2019 season of the Swedish Damallsvenskan league (they have a summer league like the NWSL) so Sonnett shall also be playing in the CL next year. We might even be able to see some cross-league uswnt battles! However if Press and Heath sign for Manchester United they would not be playing champions league football this season as the team only came fourth (it’s also important to note though that this was their inaugural season in the top flight of english women’s football). But, and especially as in the 2021/22 tournament the WSL will have three champions league qualification spots, they will be helping the team try and secure one of those places for next season.
Hope this rough outline helped and I’m more than willing to answer any more questions - might do a more WSL focused one too if this one is actually helpful. Anyways, welcome to the champions league and European women’s football in general, I hope you fall in love with it to stay even after players return to the NWSL :))
Press I'm excited for especially as scoring goals is sometimes the Man united issue they set them up well but don't always get them in the net, It'll also help James not have to carry the load so much up front. Tobin I'm not so sure how she fits in but thats Casey's issue not mine, lol.
Some points have been made! From a united perspective the press signing seems more necessary especially to challenge the top three, and well knowing casey she'll have something in mind for Tobin too because yes they're a package but there's other places she could go to if she didnt feel like united would be the right fit
Tobin and Christen rumored to man united both sides in agreement. That could be very good for all the young players to have role models like that at that club to show them how to be professional all the time and help instill a winning mentality
WHAT. THE. ACTUAL. HECK. SJVJFJSJCJDJZ Now that's totally come out of left corner dont know what to think right now at all yikes yikes yikes. They're already a squad that are vying for the wins, they're already a team who have some great older players and great management to guide the younger players. But to have that plus both Tobin and Christen would be just another total layer. Frick me Casey really is going for the big guns if this ends up going through
