The battle was waged. It quickly became an absolute war zone, a familiar sight to some and new to others, but daunting to all. T’Challa came with reinforcements, a good portion of the Wakandan forces which evened up some of the odds. Above the battle, Rhodes and Sam took out what of Thanos’s legion they could, Tony assisting them in between helping out with the ground control.
Everyone rushed forward, taking on their intended targets. Natasha met Proxima head on, her charged batons clashing with the alien woman’s weapon, sparks flying as they pushed at one another, dodging and landing strikes.
“Remarkably resilient for a human, I shall enjoy bringing your death all the more.” Proxima sneered at the small woman.
Natasha was silent, focused. Actions spoke louder than words after all as she upped the charge of her weapons and rammed one towards the alien’s left side, taking pleasure in the reaction, watching her gasp and move away, the scent of burning flesh permeating the air.
Focused though she was on her opponent, Natasha still did what she could to keep track of her Husband while reminding herself that he would be okay, even though she felt that twinge of anxiety that sounding could go wrong. Everything was against them this time, more than any other time before.
The fighting raged on, seemingly never ending as each Avenger or those who had come to aid them in their quest clashed with Thanos’s forces. Time seemed to stand still as they fought and soon Natasha found herself backed into a corner of sorts Proxima clearly not wearing down any time soon. One of her batons was lost and so she had replaced it with a knife which dripped with blue blood as the alien advanced and the Widow had no where to escape. Her mind scrambled, trying to decide where to take the hit that was coming that would cause the least amount of damage and still allow her to fight when suddenly something large rammed into the woman, tearing her apart, a red glow dissipating.
“You looked like you were in trouble,” Wanda commented as she landed, looking her teammate over.
“A bit. Thanks…” Natasha breathed and then tried to wipe away some of the blue blood off of her, out of her hair, “gross though. Where is Vision?”
“Safe. In Wakanda with Shuri. She is trying to remove the stone from him and keep him from…” Wanda couldn’t finish the sentence, she would not think of losing him, not another person she loved and cared for.
Natasha nodded, understandingly and then located her lost weapon and rejoined the fight as Wanda did the same.
They never seemed to stop coming, those mindless creatures as though there was never ending supply of them. But the Avengers and their new friends fought on, pushing beyond their own limits to do so as the battle continued.
Light exploded around them, above them and inside of him. The sound of thunder around them was deafening, covering the animalist shouts of the Outriders who advanced against them in waves.
The Asgardian army joined forces with the Sakaarians and now with the Wakandas, pushing back Thanos' forces and evening the battlefield. Midgard was no longer unprotected: the Avengers had learned how to join forces to protect this planet that was often a target of evil, bigger plans. Thanos was still nowhere to be found when Thor surveilled from above, dodging incoming attacks and resisting the inerrant pull to land with the rest and help them. He had total faith in his friends and in his Wife and he knew they would be alright. He had a goal, and as soon as he finished the Titan, the sooner this battle would be over. He prayed that the Norns would guide his steps and his hands. Something in the far horizon caught Thor's attention, a large ship, similar to the one that had attacked the Statesman. It was camouflaged, blending with the clouds.
"Found you," Thor told himself under his breath, heading closer to the Sanctuary where, hopefully, Thanos was waiting, firing a lighting bolt. The ship fired back at him before collapsing, forcing Thanos to leave his hiding place. A very powerful shot like a cannonball caught Thor off guard, knocking him to the ground where he laid for a moment, confused. Gamora appeared out of nowhere beside him, helping him to his feet, her eyes glued to the ship above them. "Now that you found him, he'll come," she explained, her voice weak, her eyes full of fear. And surely enough, a portal opened up in front of them. Thanos emerged from it, the gauntlet in his hand wielding the space, the power and the reality stone. The Outriders cheered when they saw their leader and reassumed their battle even wilder. Thanos studied the battlefield, aiming the gauntlet to this enemies and before he could fire, he was ran over by a ship that landed on top of him. Thor and Gamora took some steps back, surprised, when a blue android pushed the door open to get out of the ship, going where they were to greet Gamora, "I thought he had killed you," she said, and Thor realized she was the sister Gamora had told him about. "Not yet," the green woman replied, a smirk on her lips. Before they could talk any further, the ship was cut in half and Thanos emerged from it, angrier than before, fighting those around him as if they were insects. Thor suddenly had a plan which he shared with Gamora. Hopefully, it would work and this battle would be over soon, once and for all.
