So it's been a while since I've done something like this but it was time I got back to it. as this is my first actual book review it's a little bit longer it's not crazy great but I edited it as best as I could. I have some better ideas on things to do as I continue forward and do more, but for now this is what I got.
I intend to do a little intro, and then a short summary and review and then a long summary and review. Sometimes I'll point out something like in this one how I thought a character looked rather than how they are illustrated, sometimes it will be different things I liked or didn't like, as you can expect opinions and reviews to go.
I was going to hold a poll for the next book I was going to start which would either be, Mistborn 1, Wheel of Time 2, Maybe Redwall 1, or The Witcher series. but I think I am leaning towards The Witcher, via it's reading order.
Any nerds got any input?
Just finished this & in the afterword Mashima said he's working on an original anime, another game, (he'll have 2 out before the end of the year), one Fairy Tail & a farmin monster sim, AND a new battle fantasy manga that's going to launch soon. Which means he'll have 3 mangas going at the same time. Fairy Tail, Edenszero, and it. Insane!
The new book I've started is probably one you've heard of or seen. Jurrassic Park. It was kind of a 180 slap in the face going from fantasy to horror/thriller and it being so dumb smart.
What do I actually mean by that? Well, the man can write. And gets to in a way that I wish I could. Where he doesn't really write descriptive characters. He gives you the name. He gives you the age and maybe what they're wearing which sometimes are so simplistic, it makes me laugh.
"She was eight years old."
"He wore khaki shorts and a shirt."
Easy. Done. But then he goes on and on and scientific talk and speak that I assume is well researched because I'm taking it at base face value and I'm not going to go research it myself. And of course at this time the book is pretty outdated and even the movie probably has some of it's own issues. I've already noticed some differences between the two.
And honestly that wasn't something I was intending to do because in the other mediums if I'm reading the comic, I'm not going to watch the show. Whereas, if I'm reading the book, I'm probably not going to watch the show or movie. This was one of the first exceptions where I heard it was very different and very much darker especially when you get into it. There's only been slight differences so far and character choices that I am confused by that the movie made and when I rewatch after I read, I might question it more myself.
I intended to post this a lot sooner, but I am actually halfway through the book. which overall probably gives me a better grasp and opinion on it rather than a first impression, but I think that works for something so well known. So a full review will come at you when I get there, but this is just an update for now.
A skip and a hop and just like that I made it to the end. Boy did it take a while. Tedious, tedious, work. Gears really shifted towards the end. I'm not sure on my overall feelings, but I will probably go and look back through my old post and then compile my final thoughts for a full final review. Onto another book for now (not 2 in that series).
I'm on Goodreads now. You'll only see my current book book reads and reviews for them! Feel free to add me if you're on there~
I'm officially over half way in reading Eye of the World, or The Wheel of Time 1. The world building is about the same, a lot. But character development and pacing have gotten a lot better.
Splitting up the main group and dedicating chapters to each really helped out rather than all Rand all the time with tons of characters on top of each other.
My next update, should be my final for this book and my overall opinions will land. We'll see how it goes!
Reading Update:
In regards to WoT. I've now hit chapter 24. It's crazy that chapter 20 was 20+ pages and then 22 was only 6. But essentially I knock out a chapter a night, not that I read every night.
"The Eye of the World contains 53 chapters and 2 prologues and consists of seven unique POVs and 59 total POVs. In it's standard format, it has a total word count of 300,147 words. If the Ravens prologue is included, this rises to 310,191 words." (Which is included in what I've read.)
After chapter 20 is when the POV changing really starts. Basically the fellowship splits up and you follow each group from then on.
Overall opinion thusfar. It's not bad. It's not gripping every second, but some of the world building and characters are interesting enough. I do plan on only reading book 1 at this moment. Many others already tbr.
Officially broke 1mil views on Youtube!! Such excite.
Back with another reading update. I knew it'd get tedious to update constantly, or rather every chapter. So here we are as I've knocked out the next five.
Things were slow, and the original complaint was how it seemed only an hour had passed, but the chapters sped by reaching a whole day! Haha, but seriously, things weren't eventful until Chapter 5.
And as I continue, I'm reminded of the fact that with these long names they say fully over and over again, how my pronunciation of them have got to be far from what they're supposed to be. Sometimes I just shorten their name and black out the rest like the wisdom, Nym, lol.
While I look to be about 1/5th of the way done with the book at the beginning of Chapter 10... there are still 45 more chapters. So we'll see how it goes!
