A Promise

Written for @the-creative-lounge-blog’s April Fool’s Event. I chose to write a short angst piece from a fluff prompt: “Trust me.” Fandom: TGCF - MXTX (Heaven Official’s Blessing, web novel)

Summary:  A little peek at the humble beginnings of Crimson Rain Sought Flower. (Missing scene that follows the time he was known as Wu Ming, and before he was known as Hua Cheng.)

A Promise

Darkness.

He turned his head this way and that. He silently asked, begged, then prayed for light, but all his willing resulted in darkness made impossibly darker.

“Let me see!” He commanded aloud, as if it could work after all else failed.

Perhaps he should have tried that first, he thought, and even though that didn’t yield sight of his surroundings, he felt a little smarter than the moment before he considered that theory.

Why was it so dark?

Unfortunately, he was deep within a cavern, deep within a mountain, deep within a place that maps forgot, where few went willingly and even fewer left. However, those minor details weren’t the reason.

It was because he’d known light.

The boisterous Fairy Tail hall was usually a source of great happiness for Makarov, however, so much mirth was too distracting when he had heavy thinking to do, so he slipped out to walk the streets of Magnolia.

In recent years, his wizarding guild took in orphaned youths left to wander the world without guidance. He duly reported each tragic event in those children’s lives to the Magic Council, and the growing number of reports he issued hinted at the coming of a much larger threat in the near future.
