the conversation doesn't stop just because you stop listening.
So, I’ve been pulled over a few times in my life. Not many, but a few. And I’ve also been in a couple of cars that got pulled over. And let me tell you, if you were actually doing something wrong, the officer doesn’t make any small talk, just straight into “I clocked you doing 70 in a 55.” The only time I’ve ever gotten the “do you know why I pulled you over?” was the time when I wasn’t doing anything wrong, and I got let go even though he insisted to the end that I was doing 87 in a 70 (white privilege at work).
“Do you know why I pulled you over?” is a trap. It means there’s a good chance the officer doesn’t actually have a good reason to ticket you, and is trying to get you to waive your 5th Amendment rights and incriminate yourself. If you make a guess, that’s a confession of guilt.
But there’s another trap, that I’ve heard of but haven’t yet experienced. It’s “do you know how fast you were going?” With that one, they’re hoping you’ll say no, because then they can name whatever speed they want – you just said you didn’t know how fast you were going, if you deny the speed they name then you’re lying to them.
Oh, I’ve had that one. Go with “yes.” Don’t give them a number, just say “Yes.” Then they still have to offer a number and you can deny it without contradicting yourself. They could just ask you, at that point, but that’s suspiciously similar to saying they don’t know, and they tend to avoid doing that.
26-year-old Jamarion Robinson’s grandmother Beverly Nixon said her grandson was bipolar and schizophrenic. Still got shot 76 (!!!) times. Would a white person get the same treatment?
The witness said he saw more than a dozen patrol cars at the complex where US Marshals killed Robinson on August 5, 2016. Why were there no behavioral specialist? Surely one of them would know how to interact with a bipolar schizophrenic better than the police.
I’m absolutely disgusted.
Here’s Jamarion’s mother’s GoFundMe in case anyone is willing to help.
#JusticeForJamarion #BlackLivesMatter
Oh god ..
this is how much they’ve raised as of June 26th, 2020.
$48,589 out of $100,000 raised as of September 28th, 2020
SEVENTY SIX FUCKING BULLETS
This is so disgusting
I’m so glad to see this on tumblr! If you’re interested in following the story, go to JusticeforGeorgia on IG - they’re not only working closely with Jamarion’s family, but also with many other Georgia families who have lost loved ones to similar police violence.
They’ve been protesting continuously (originally as a part of the Promote Positivity Movement - which they’re still connected to personally though not officially) at the Centennial Olympic Rings in Atlanta, GA since the beginning of the protests this summer.
And I mean: DAILY - out there with signs, food, snacks, masks (many used for outreach to the local homeless) every day for at least 2 hours, protesting in direct view of the APD and doing a daily speak out. Issues this summer included not only the litany of names for GA and other black victims of violence, but also related issues that disproportionately impact the community of black Americans.
The founders, OfficialBrittJ and _ScorpionKing21 , have been working so hard alongside Monteria Robinson (Jamarion’s mom) to raise attention and awareness about Jamarion and so many other cases!
“Good cops”
I need this to be watched by the masses.
This is the simplest explination ever and people still don’t wanna hear it.
Close up video of a black man with glasses and a red t-shirt “I hate when discussing police brutality people like to say ‘but there are good cops too,’ there are good cops too? Fam, there’s clean water. If I live in a house where the tap water is coming out dirty sometimes I don’t just say ‘well, it’s not always dirty so it’s okay, nothing wrong.’ No! I need to replace the system, I need to examine the system at the source so my water is clean and acting like water every single time. The idea of a police man is to be good so if he’s not acting like that and if more policeman aren’t acting like that we got a system to examine. Cause see tap water systems in houses- tap water systems have filters that are supposed to stop, uh, the dirt from coming through, when the water comes out of our sink and into my cup I’m supposed to be able to trust that that water is safe for me to drink on sight, I’m not supposed to have to, to test it at all. Same thing with a police man– I’m supposed to see a man with a badge and trust him on sight and know justice and nothing but pure things is supposed to come from him. So when there is a possibility of that not being done there’s crap getting through the filter—we gotta fix this filter! So if that water in my house is coming out dirty sometimes and clean sometimes, when I pour a cup of water I have a reason to be worried until I fix that system, until something changes I have a reason to be nervous when I pour a cup of water from the sink and I look at it am I like ‘is this gonna be a dirty glass of water or is it gonna be clean? Is this gonna be a bad cop or a good cop? ‘I shouldn’t even have to worry about that, I should see a cop and know for a fact that’s gonna be a clean cup of water, everytime I see him.”

No charges for Breonna Taylor’s killer’s. Cops in Seattle are already blocking streets in preparation to commit more war crimes against any protests that arise. Fuck this country.
if you’re in Louisville seriously stay in groups and be careful, 3%’ers are out
hey, this is straight from a well-known activist in louisville, this is the bail fund he recommends donating to: https://bailproject.org/louisville/?form=donate
the louisville community bail fund is also reputable, but there are some issues with them getting the money from action network, so you might want to donate to bail project louisville instead
(bail project has a paypal option and requires less personal info to donate, too)
OP is mistaken, they did charge the officer who fired into the apartment and killed her.
Many sites are using headlines saying they were “not charged for killing her”, which is sorta half-true; he was charged with reckless endangerment for firing the shots which killed her, not murder.
From the NYT coverage:
“Grand jurors indicted Mr. Hankison, a detective at the time, on three counts of “wanton endangerment,” saying he had imperiled the lives of three of Ms. Taylor’s neighbors by firing bullets that reached their apartment.
Mr. Hankison fired through a door and window of Ms. Taylor’s apartment building that were covered with blinds, violating a department policy that requires officers to have a line of sight. At least some of his rounds reached the apartment directly behind Ms. Taylor’s, where a pregnant woman, her husband and their 5-year-old child were asleep. The rounds shattered the family’s glass door but did not harm anyone.
Mr. Hankison is the only one of the three officers who fired their weapons who was dismissed from the force, with a termination letter stating that he showed “an extreme indifference to the value of human life.””
This reads to me as though Hankison was, in fact, “not charged for killing her.” He was charged for endangering the lives of Taylor’s neighbors. I don’t want to underplay how awful it is that those neighbors were put at risk—it is unambiguously awful when cops threaten or harm anyone, no matter whom, the actual guilty included.
But the fact remains that a single cop is facing an endangerment charge over people who are still alive, and exactly zero of the three cops who killed Breonna Taylor are facing charges for her death.
^^^ there it is

This is my thing...COPS REALLY DONT NEED DEFENDING....they don’t need you protecting them by saying “their are some good cops” 😩
They are fine! They got their guns, they have their weapons, they have the justice system on their side, they have government protection and billions of dollars in funding.
They really don’t need you defending them, like at all.
We the people, are the helpless ones, we have none of those things.
I just wish people could see how fucking stupid they look sticking up for police. Baby they don’t need your help. At all. They’re good.
They don’t need to be defended they need to be defunded.
JUSTICE FOR TRAYFORD PELLERIN
On Aug 25, 2020, Trayford Pellerin was in a parking lot of a gas station when multiple police officers confronted him. They were reportedly following up on a report about a “disturbance involving a person armed with a knife.” Trayford did have a knife, but he didn’t use it to threaten the police officers. Instead, he simply turned and walked away. Officers followed him on foot for almost half a mile to another gas station to arrest him, and even tried to taser him, but he continued to ignore them. When Trayford tried to enter the convenience store of another gas station, a group of roughly 6 officers approached him and opened fire, firing at least 10 shots. Trayford died on the scene.
This was an egregious and ridiculous use of force by the police. Not only did they shoot and kill a man who was simply walking away from them, they opened fire in front of a public store. Someone else could have gotten hurt because of their preemptive violence, as in the case of Melyda Corado. The police of Louisiana have also displayed a clear racial bias; the Southern Poverty Law Center reported that in 2016, black adults comprised only 30.6% of Louisiana’s adult population, but are 53.7% of adults who were arrested and 67.5% of adults in prison. Black adults are also 4.3 times as likely as white adults to be serving a felony prison sentence in Louisiana.
It is hard to believe that Trayford Pellerin would have been killed so brutally if he were white. Just earlier this month on Aug 5, a white man named Donald Guidry was similarly in possession of a knife and led Lafayette law enforcement on a chase for over an hour in a stolen car. A SWAT team was called when Donald barricaded himself in the car, but they were able to get him to take him into custody without injuring him. Meanwhile, Trayford was shot egregiously in public in flagrant disregard of the sanctity of life and public safety. This is unacceptable and unconscionable, and the offending officers must be named and charged.
Please join us in demanding justice for Trayford and other victims of police violence!
8.24.20. Kenosha, WI
Police shoot Jacob Blake 7 times in the back as he gets into his car. The city has taken no action against the officers yet, but has deployed force against community members and called in the National Guard. Protests across the country are starting tonight in solidarity with Kenosha, WI and Jacob Blake, who’s currently still in “serious condition.”
We also need to remember that even if Jacob Blake pulls through and recovers, he is now paralyzed from the waist down. He will likely be in a wheelchair for the rest of his life. He may never walk again.
I’m sure everyone knows how difficult it is to be a disabled/differently abled person in america. It’s even worse for disabled people who are non-white. Being disabled is hard enough. Being black AND disabled is even worse to go through in this country. He will need physical therapy and assistance, medical treatment and accommodations, among other things. That kind of help is not cheap. Not to mention emotional therapy and counseling, after going through a traumatic event such as this.
Reports are saying he's still alive but in critical condition
Justice for Jacob Blake

Spotted at an LA protest: woke ace

A number of people have also pointed out along the side and at the bottom is says stuff to so I’d like the chance to make those messages really big since tumblr gives us all the digital real estate in the world on this post. Ahem—
BLACK LIVES MATTER #BLM
She's obviously wonderful, but can we talk about the guy holding what looks like a giant white rose in the background? I might be completely misinterpreting here, but the white rose (or Weiße Rose) was a students' resistance organization in Nazi Germany. If that is in fact what he was referencing, that's amazing.
Reblogging for the curious historical factoid
Cops murdered a black girl in Toronto this week too but Canadians are too up their own asses about how we’re “Not the racist ones! That’s only America! We’re the nice ones :)” to acknowledge it or do anything about it
Cops in Canada are just as racist and evil please Canada wake the fuck up
Her name was Regis Korchinski-Paquet, she was a 29 year old Afro-Indigenous woman. She was pushed off of her own balcony by the Toronto police and fell to her death. They are reporting it as a suicide.
Say her name. Do not let them cover this up.
The judge that signed that warrant was complicit or maybe a warrant was never issued.... either way the indictment of Breonna Taylor’s murderers would expose the deep-seeded structural Racism in Louisville’s system.
Many more people than those cops need to go down for Breonna Taylor’s murder.
We’re all having “hard conversations” about racism, police brutality, and #BlackLivesMatter I hope.
You’ve probably noticed that detractors often use the same “racist talking points” in response. Here’s a researched and sourced guide to help you answer, for the times you may get stuck.
