Published in “Transvestia” magazine #38 (April 1966). I think original art could be by Bob Tupper.

not sure if anyone’s added this info here but because I wanted to know more I checked and….

Every issue of transvestia magazine, which ran from the 60’s through to the 80’s is available through the uVic archives. It was a groundbreaking publication for the crossdressing and later the transgender community. Check it out.

If you haven’t started already, start archiving/downloading everything. Save it to an external hard drive if you’re able. Collecting physical media is also a good idea, if you’re able.

Download your own/your favorite fanfics. Save as much as you can from online sources/digital libraries. Recipes, tutorials, history, LGBTQ media, etc. It has been claimed, though I can’t find the exact source if true, that some materials about the Revolutionary War were deleted from the Library of Congress.

It’s always better to be safe than sorry and save and preserve what you can. Remember that cloud storage also is not always reliable!

  • Library of Congress - millions of books, films and video, audio recordings, photographs, newspapers, maps, manuscripts.
  • Internet Archive - millions of free texts, movies, software, music, websites, and more. Has been taken offline multiple times because of cyber attacks last month, it has recently started archiving again.
  • Anna's Archive - 'largest truly open library in human history.’
  • Queer Liberation Library - queer literature and resources. Does require applying for a library membership to browse and borrow from their collection.
  • List of art resources - list of art resources complied on tumblr back in 2019. Not sure if all links are still operational now, but the few I clicked on seemed to work.
  • Alexis Amber - TikToker who is an archivist who's whole page is about archiving. She has a database extensively recording the events of Hurricane Katrina.

I'll be adding more to this list, if anyone else wants to add anything feel free!

also my original drawing that sparked probably the wildest death threat attack against me has been salvaged, after tumblr took it down and pretended to give it back to me

goth hijabi and her sweet lolita gf

[id: a digital drawing of two muslim women standing together. The woman on the left has dark brown skin and is smiling and blushing as she talks excitedly. She is wearing a frilly, short pink and white dress with pale pink trousers on underneath. She also has on a pink jacket, white gloves, and a light pink hijab which is tied to the side of her face, she is carrying a small pink heart bag across her shoulder. The woman next to her is taller with pale olive skin, she is draped in black fabric that leaves only her face visible and forms a long layered dress \end id]

also this is old but wanted to note to all my current followrts and those who may see this the sweet lolita hijabi is not a woman but a nonbinary lesbian as they are my oc

only the goth hijabi is a woman and goes by she/her

[id: A second drawing of the muslim woman and non-binary person. They are dressed in the same outfits, this time posed with the goth woman holding a trans flag and lolita styled person holding the non-binary flag\end id]

Thanks for reminding me about this lovely art! I’ve updated my origional description to reflect their identities though I don’t know if it will change on old reblogs.

Literally sick to death of twitter throwing a fit every single day about art depicting visibly trans people, GNC trans people, etc, and calling it a hateful caricature. ESPECIALLY when often it turns out to be explicitly based on someone the artist is friends with, and people still say the most horrible things about their appearance.

Like, I get it. Many trans people feel defensive because there absolutely are a lot of shitty caricatures of us. And since two out of the three 'controversies' I've seen most recently were transmasc artists drawing transfem characters - Yes, trans artists should think about the ways they depict other types of trans people and ideally not stereotype them and show their diversity too.

But all too often people just project their own issues and judgements on a particular piece of art and basically end up making up a guy to get mad at.

This is the one I saw today -

It's not even a drawing of a trans woman, turns out. According to the trans man artist who drew it, the piece is called 'genderless' and it's based on a real person he knows. It's at a gay bar.

And it bothers me that people were so quick to assume, and many even to double down on gendering the person depicted in this drawing. This is just a clear representation of a trans person whose gender and sex are ambiguous, intentionally. They are intentionally visibly trans, but crucially, not in a way that tells you anything about what type of trans person they are.

Or do these people just not realise there are transmasc people who look exactly like this? Who have stubble and hairy chests and small, 'deflated' breasts. It's not uncommon at all. There are trans women who look like this. There are nonbinary people and genderfluid people and agender people and genderqueer people who look like this.

So it's honestly really shitty to assume a trans artist just decided to draw a hateful caricature at a gay bar instead of simply representing one of these people. Which is what actually happened.

Frankly it just feels like weird respectability politics, and some people having a disgust response to a visibly non cis, non comforming body presented in a neutral way. And finding ways to justify that after the fact.

(At least in some cases. I have no issues with trans women who didn't personally like it and suggested at least the name of the art piece should be available for context in a little plaque or something. That makes sense!)

Hot take even trans people who "look like" transphobic caricatures deserve to be celebrated and perhaps we should instead be targeting people who think looking like that is a bad thing.

YEAH thank you!! Like I don't know how that's not obvious to more people

There were so many replies just absolutely insulting this person's appearance and reinforcing the idea that looking like this is wrong or disgusting. Someone said "my partner looks like this and I think they're beautiful" and got told they were insulting their partner with the comparison. As if looking like this is some unthinkable flaw

This is honestly something that has tanked my self esteem lately. I was really happy with the changes I was getting from HRT, but with the general state of the world and the constant influx of anti-trans hate and a little sprinkling of scrupulosity, when I look in the mirror I see a caricature. I put on outfits I used to love and think to myself "I can't go out like this- it's an insult to other people" because when they look at me they won't see a human being, they'll see a caricature of a trans person

Real people cannot be caricatures by simply looking like themselves. The way you look doesn't say anything about anyone else, it's just part of who you are, and there is nothing wrong with it. I'm really sorry you have to deal with this. It's really just such bullshit.

I love that the internet saw people comparing women and other alienated groups of people and went, “they’re dating,” and, “they support each other.” We’re improving as a society.

Does anyone know who these artists are?? They’re brilliant and I’d like to credit them!!

THIS IS HOW TO TAKE A TRASH OPINION COMIC AND MAKE IT BETTER. THANK YOU.

I love this!!!

I think that the evolution of these "not like other girls" comics being popular to "these two are doing well now and are in love" comics being popular is VERY sexy of us

“Oh, what’s that? You posted a comic about your garbage opinion? LESBIAN BEAM!”

I just remembered my second Pride, where I made different flag themed daisy chain bracelets/necklaces to hand out. I need folks to understand something:

They were free.

They were fucking free.

They were maybe ¢60 of acrylic yarn each at the most, and the whole ziploc bag of them took 2 hours max.

Three people gave me sad eyes until I took their money.

Someone who was clearly the mom friend of their group made me take a $5 and gave a 10 minute pep talk.

At least four more people insisted on getting change to pay for the, once again, free bracelets.

In spite of all these shenanigans, the absolute best was this one person who I can only describe as, “queer surfer dude who looks like a boyfriend who looks like a girlfriend.” I can remember nothing of the outfit, only the impeccable vibes. I did the same thing I did with everyone else, explaining the bracelets were free, and they nodded along as they took the last 6 strand rainbow bracelet. As soon as they had it on their wrist, they pointed at something over my shoulder and, like a fool, I looked.

Next thing I know, they’re running off cackling, yelling, “YOU’LL NEVER CATCH ME!” and I’m holding a fucking $20. I had to stop at least two people from chasing them, cause they thought the person stole something, and then they tried to give me money cause they thought it was funny seeing me flail over people being Too Nice.

That was the year I got reverse-robbed at Pride. I hope everyone out there is having a good time and, in particular, that queer surfer dude is out there still causing benevolent chaos.
