I’m a fan of Saga, The Walking Dead, The Hunger Games, The Lunar Chronicles, Outlander, Timeless, Game of Thrones (sometimes), Twilight (occasionally), Steven Universe, Gravity Falls, Avatar: The Last Airbender/Legend Of Korra, and a bunch of other stuff. Carrie White and Bree Tanner deserved better.

it’s the “fuck you” to the current trend of encouraging teenagers to look 24 and embracing girly things that cis men hate

American Kawaii

she looks like someone turned a Skittles commercial into a person and i love it

If you don’t mind me putting my two cents:

I feel like Jojo Siwa’s style is reminiscent of the colorful teen girl fashion of the late 2000s and early 10s. Back then it was considered fashionable to use lots of colors, accessories, etc. Take a look at Jojo Siwa:

Very colorful, generous with sparkles and accessories. It’s meant to be fun!

If you were a kid in 2007-2012 you saw something similar in the clothing the teens in your sitcoms wore, although not as exaggerated. The fashion in Shake It Up(which came out in 2010) is a really good example of this:

(You may laugh, but this was the height of fashion to 13 year old me.)

The point is, Jojo’s aesthetic is similar to being a young pre teen girl walking into Limited Too for the first time.

And the reason cishet men hate it is because they don’t find it attractive. That’s why she’s often made fun of and used as a joke so much. Because that style doesn’t cater to the male gaze. It’s not for them, so it must be bad.

Cyndi Lauper, late 1980s, for your consideration.

Okay but you realize that the person who said "American Kawaii" has it exactly right, yea? That kawaii in Japan was created for girls to embrace cutesy juvenile things that refuted the beauty standards (created by men) that expected them to look mature and marriageable as soon as possible. It was over-the-top BECAUSE men hated it! Because the girls in the subculture specifically wanted to keep them away as long as they could and enjoy their childhood without being seen as Somebody's Future Wife™.

アメリカのカワイイです!

I love that this is happening. That it's not an artificially created trend and, if I'm frank, that men hate it. It reminds me of the way my baby sister was dressing in the 1980s.

Jojo said on her insta live that she doesn't have a label because she isn't really sure what it would be, and she thinks humans are awesome. So please, please, remember she is super young, and still figuring things out, so don't try and push her into any boxes unless she eventually says she wants to be in one specifically, because that could do more harm than good.

Plus it's awesome that this now shows a bunch of kids that you can be happy being yourself without having to put a specific label on it if you're not comfortable, and that's beautiful.

JoJo Siwa is gay and this is what it means

With the publication of this tweet, it is official and indisputable: Joelle Joanne Siwa is gay. And this is a massive win for the LGBTQ+ community.

Allow me to explain.

In the past few years, JoJo Siwa has all but become the next Hannah Montana. She’s the pinnacle of child star culture. Her songs are sickeningly peppy, to the point where teenaged and adult listeners cringe at the lyrics before they can even notice the production.

She did this on purpose. JoJo Siwa is nearly eighteen. Similar to Ke$ha’s promiscuous image, Siwa’s persona is an exaggeration of one part of her personality. Which leads one to wonder, why would she ever choose that part of her personality to exaggerate? I don’t mean the energetic way of talking, per se, but the glitter. And the ice cream. And the JoJo Juice.

The thing is, behind all of this, Siwa is an expert businesswoman (assuming that the “best gay cousin” shirt uses gay as an umbrella term for bisexual/lesbian, not a way of saying transmasc mlm). She carefully positioned herself as the most powerful force in the childrens’ music industry. She’s going to have as much of an influence on kids’ lives as early Disney Channel series did on many of yours. And she did this on purpose.

It’s easy to think that her purpose is to make money. And while that’s always a motivator, she said it herself on an interview with Jimmy Fallon. She’s here to spread an uplifting message.

And now that’s what she’s doing.

JoJo’s face is on everything. She has an entire business empire. She has made entire videos going through her merch catalog, since there’s so much of it. She has solidified herself everywhere. People have shirts, backpacks, even food with her face on it.

Not only that, but her image is that of innocence. People tell their kids to listen to JoJo Siwa, since it’s clean. People point to her as the pinnacle of cheerful innocence. She’s a role model to kids all around the world.

And now she’s gay.

Now homophobes around the world are going to have to grapple with the fact that gay can also be innocent. This isn’t Miley Cyrus. She didn’t release any raunchy singles before coming out. She’s at the height of her career. Kids love her songs, teens love her TikToks, parents love her safety. She’s showing homophobes that gay people can also be marketed towards a young audience.
