This one was a short weekly tutorial briefly talking about gesture drawing, shapes and how to reference. Next week I’ll do a reference sheet with dynamic poses, I didn’t get to it this week cause I ran out of time. Anyways I hoped this helped some people!

“small thread on drawing plus sized characters!”
i love love love when artists put a bunch of effort into like human anatomy and facial features and light rendering and drawing fabric folds and shadows and texture and then when they draw a gun they do this
Do you hate drawing firearms? Let me introduce my good friend 3d Warehouse to you! There's a pretty good database of 3d models that you can rotate and play with in real time, no program download required! I've seen all sorts of real world firearms, as well as fictional guns from popular video games and other media
Don't ever be afraid to trace guns--it's not art theft or stealing, it's saving yourself an enormous amount of time for the exact same end result. Additionally, if you're unsure of what firearms to draw, the Internet Movie Firearms Database has a collection of basically all firearms used in any media ever, from anime to film to video games and everything in between
And of course if you can't trace a gun directly then this website is still perfect for getting a reference photo of the exact right gun from the exact right angle!
Hi there this is a psa by your local mixed kid
Mixed rep in the media as a whole is kinda a fucking disaster so I'm definitely encouraging people to write more diverse mixed race characters!!! That being said give this handy dandy little guide a read to make sure you have a basic idea of what you're doing. And also. Y'know. Maybe dont make your mixed characters nonhuman. Just a thought

WOW! THE OG POST!
i will let my mind go wild with these knowing i’ll finally be able to credit the original artist
EEEE FINALLY THE ORIGINAL ARTIST
I noticed prev tags asking how you draw this from the front and I’ve been meaning to make a tutorial about this for a while so what the hell!! Please excuse how rushed this is but hopefully it communicates the concept
When drawing fat bodies it’s very helpful to visualize each individual part you’re drawing. When it comes to the double chin, you wouldn’t usually draw two actual chins, but sketching it that way can give you an idea of how the fat hangs! (also you can’t go wrong with literally just drawing the neck slightly wider)
Once you’ve accounted for the double chin in your sketch, you can start experimenting with lines. Generally you’ll want to use minimal lines to indicate where the first chin is, and then the second chin will be a bit more free form. Weight is carried mainly in the bottom of the face, so as a general rule, a heavier person will have a larger double chin.
Also keep in mind that the jaw becomes rounded and will sit lower on a heavier face! And remember that the neck can have rolls, too.
My simplest advice for drawing fat faces and necks boils down to this:
ERASE THAT ANGULAR JAWLINE
Redraw the jawline lower and rounder
Draw the neck wider like literally just take the two lines that make the neck and scoot them outwards BAM that’s already an improvement
thanks for attending my ted talk xx

Much has been said about unrealistic female anatomy, but is it not even more bizarre and fucking terrible that <90% of generic male drawing tutorials show some kind of monstrous aftermath of bodybuilding, steroids and extreme dehydration and are like "this is a basic male torso"
In the nicest way possible, if you see this as "basic" male anatomy and all other possibilities as variations on this, your art will be Not Good except in circumstances of dumb luck
99% of men Do Not look like this, ever, at all, and out of those that ever do, they Do Not look like this 99% of the time.
Abs don't appear defined unless you're tensing and flexing your whole abdomen, and they don't appear that defined unless you're unhealthily dehydrated. You don't get abs like that in the first place unless you're doing intense workouts, dumping protein in everything you eat, and probably restricting food unhealthily specifically to get that kind of look
But it's not a problem just because it's unrealistic, it's a problem because it betrays a fundamental misunderstanding of what muscle is and does.
Like, drawing bodies in dynamic poses is not going to be very fun for you if you don't get that muscle is squishy when relaxed and you're imagining it as this tough, stiff pulley system
like, if you look at renaissance and baroque paintings of men, which were painted by masters of anatomy who did intensive studies including disections to learn how to depict the male body, the men in those paintings and sculptures DONT look like the above. they almost never have defined abs.
for instance, if you look at rubens abduction of ganymede,
an idealised figure of a man who is meant to be very attractive. hes literally ganymede! but not only does he not have abs, you can see rolls of fat where his trunk bends. his arms are clearly muscular but the dehydrating looking hyperdefinition is clearly lacking. below is michelangelo, who specialized in painting extremely muscular men and did more dissections than the average doctor (apologies for image quality but it shows my point)
so yeah please dont learn to draw men from tutorials that look like that. learn it from secret pope-sanctioned dissections

@thebibliosphere some of these remind me of the trio
Yep, that’s some downright Vlathula vibes right there. Now all I need is money to comission @umicormhorm for some crack art with some of these poses :P
dear encanto fanartists :))))))))))
Shoutout to my queen, rarity for teaching me how to draw curls at age 7
as requested- my zine about fat and plus size body types from instagram!💖 happy drawing everyone!
following my meme post the other day, and talking to friends further on the subject of fat characters in art, especially in fandom, i figured some people might like a tutorial on how to draw them.
You know what’s some crazy $hit?
This fabulous bitch
She makes a shit ton of poses (like 16,000 or some crazy nonsense). I used this lovely lady to draw so much as a teen. Whether it was some nerdy pose for my Mary Sue as fuck OCs
or for full on fight sequences
or for tragic deaths of my OCs in the arms of a totally OOC main protagonist.
this bitch hooked me up.
And with the wildest, craziest stuff that you could see in your head but had no way or resources to reasonably draw like
or this
or this
DUDE! INASNE SHIT!! So I was using her for a pose reference and decided, you know what, I owe this bitch some cash. Lemme dole it out for her. BUT then, I looked and saw she only has 286 fucking patrons!! This chick gives out free shit and spends countless hours arranging these shoots and setting this stuff up.
I’ll fork up the cash, SenshiStock. You’re worth it.
Check out this amazing woman’s stuff, and get knowledged: https://www.deviantart.com/senshistock
I have been following her for years on deviantart.
Highly reccomend checking her out. She’s the best. If I had any money to throw I’d throw it at her for providing such a big help in my life.
This hero doesn’t wear capes, she instead wears (and looks utterly flawless) in tank tops(?)
Interrupting my regular Star Wars BS to reblog this because @senshistock is amazing and beyond worth the follow and support! I first started using her refs gosh I want to say back in maybe 2008, and I’m happy to be a supporter of her over on Patreon. If you’re an artist please go find her stuff on all the platforms, you will not regret it!
Yessss, she is so awesome! Been following her for years. My favorite stock artist is jademacalla, who is, incidentally, in the last two images above. He has a lot of great angles, costumes, gear, etc! I love his hands, too.
