So was i, finding out the Gatekeeper died on the BE route was the hardest thing there. Please, my emotions on that route was, I'm the villain and i'm enjoying it, get on that level of cold bloodedness. So in your writer opinion, where did BE go right where Conquest went wrong story wise? Perhaps by not making Edelgard a slime monster? Also, who should i ship Hubert with? No i don't ship him with Edelgard, not fond of master servant ships, creeps me out. the Doro/hubie ship was a regret.
Petra’s a good choice! He’s pretty nice to her in their supports, and their epilogue indicates they’re happily married.
As for what BE did right:
- Edelgard >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Garon
- seriously, while I disagree with her methods, she has VALID REASONS for wanting to dismantle the system. Garon’s just evil for the sake of it.
- you have valid reasons for following her. she’s your student/friend/possible love interest. Garon’s an abusive father, and while Conquest COULD have played up that y’all are abused children struggling to escape the situation...it doesn’t. He’s just so cartoonishly evil that it’s incredible NO ONE realized it.
- you actually have likeable NPC allies instead of Saturday Morning Cartoon Villains, making Adrestia feel like it’s made of more people than just “EVUL”
- proper grey-and-gray morality for both sides
- the story doesn’t rely on contrived plot devices to keep moving. I’ll take a deus ex machina at the end over “I need a magic throne to show you Garon is evil even though we all can see he is” any day
